Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Genesis 12

The Call of Abram

12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

2 “I will make you into a great nation,
    and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a]
3 I will bless those who bless you,
    and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
    will be blessed through you.”[b]

4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring[c] I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.

9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

This pivotal Chapter of Genesis describes Abram as always "on the move", pitching his tent here and there, much like Modern-Day Beduin Shepherds.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Blessed and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
How Magnificent,
How Holy,
How Sanctified and Glorious!
When I Awake in the Morning,
You Are There.
All through the day,
You Are With me.
And When I go to Sleep at Night,
You Are Still Watching Over Us All.
For You Neither Slumber Nor Sleep.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Thirty-six years ago this October, I walked from the Mount of Olives to the Western Wall, celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles with thousands of other Christians. There were some of us holding signs, asking the USA to move its Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which is the Capital City of Israel. It was the first time I became aware that, unlike any other country on Planet Earth, Israel alone suffered the indignity of all the other countries NOT recognizing its Capital City. This was crazy! I prayed a particular prayer that this would be resolved appropriately, and prayed it ever since. Now, seven US Presidents later, it has finally become a reality. It took a long time, but God is faithful!

The Bible doesn't say what Abram's job was in Ur. He may have even been retired, finally settling down in a first-class city, when God called him. But, as I mentioned yesterday, People live in cities, and people gotta EAT, so there would be livestock in close proximity. Unlike now with modern transportation bringing animals to the meat-producers, and more trucks bringing the meat to the supermarket, cities were teeming with life, both human and animal.

A man's wealth could be measured in silver or gold, but was more likely measured in livestock. Nomadic People all over the world still use this unit of measurement. Whether it be cattle, horses, sheep, or goats, the size of a man's herd determines his status in society.

Animals have to eat as well, so, keeping huge flocks in the city is not going to work. That's when a wealthy person has to hire people to graze the sheep further and further away from home to keep them fed. A skilled shepherd is a great asset, but does not have the kind of investment in the flock as the true owner. No matter how good a hired person may be, he is still a hireling. At the risk of "jumping ahead", I have to point out that Jesus made this same point some two thousand years later.

And so, Abram, gets the call from God to leave his comfortable city life and take his family, his flocks and herds, and all hope of retiring in comfort, and go to parts unknown. God gives Abram a promise though, that He would "Bless those who bless him, and curse those who curse him."

Abram was probably wealthy, but he had a deep sorrow that couldn't be assuaged by material wealth. He and his beloved wife Sarai were childless, and were now past the age when they could have children. All this wealth, flocks, and herds would end up in the hands of a hireling when Abram passed on. And yet, here was God telling him to leave the city, and be made into a great nation. Why would anyone believe THAT?

Well, the fact is that Abram DID believe, and God credited that to him as Righteousness.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Here is a little prayer I say when I am riding my motorcycle and see a Trump Flag or Lawn Sign:

Dear Father in Heaven,
I lift up to You our President Donald J. Trump.

I ask that You extend to him Your Mercy and Your Grace.

Give him Saving Faith,

And fill him with Your Holy Spirit.

Endow him with Good health and Youthful Vigor.

Keep him in a state of encouragement and good humor.

Give him a thick skin and a tender heart.

Surround him with truthful and wise counselors,

And Imbue him with supernatural wisdom.

Keep him rested and stress-free even with his busy schedule.

Bless him, his family, his staff, and his supporters with Faith, Hope, and Love.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Lately, there are some many flags and signs that I need to shorten my prayer!
