CNA Staff, Jun 23, 2020 / 07:01 pm MT (CNA).- The Bishop of Metuchen led a prayer service for racial harmony and justice Friday, urging Catholics to focus on the eradication of racism.
Bishop James Checchio held the prayer service at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi June 19.
“Evil is real and even more dangerous than the coronavirus,” he said during his homily, challenging Catholics to pray and sacrifice for an end to racism, adding that “we need to address this national plague [of racism] with the same intensity we are using in our efforts to eradicate the COVID-19 virus.”
“As we continue to respond to the global pandemic of COVID-19 and its impact on our health and our economy, evil has shown itself anew to us as the sin and social disease of racism,” he said.
“During this already difficult time, confusion, mistrust, anger and anxiety have all helped to bring to light an extremely contagious and dangerous outbreak of hate.”
In addition to clerics, lay minister and members of the diocese’s African American, African, and Caribbean Apostolate participated in the service.
The Diocese of Metuchen is holding prayer services, called "Enduring Love: Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for racial harmony, peace, justice and healing in our nation”, across the diocese on Fridays this June.

I finally looked up the actual definition of racism.
It’s amazing that with such a diverse country, there is so little of it.
Well, hatred of crackas seems to be on the rise, even among crackas :)
I had no idea ‘racism’ was so rampant in the Catholic Church.
Personally what I see is not a “dangerous outbreak of hate” but an agenda that is merely proclaiming an “outbreak” that does not actually exist, ALREADY, with a majority of all people.
There is a Marxist political agenda that is trying to pretend that many “disparities” exist solely due to “racism” instead o of due to a combination of historic economic artifacts, breakup of the family unit among far too many “blacks”, leading to less economic security for single mom led families, placing the incomplete family in “lower income” housing, and neighborhood schools associated with them. But even all that is countered increasingly by the more and more “blacks” to whom those conditions no longer prevail.
In the whole of my life, among all the different folks in my life, I have always found racism to be a minority, and never dominant, and yes in my life I have had many professional and personal associations with many “blacks”.
I think the real “racist” agenda that is being promoted now is the BLM agenda with its “white privilege” scheme, which is nothing other than thinly disguised black racism.

Racism? What about when groups of any type target other groups? For instance, when an organization/entity is mostly homosexual, and heterosexuals are selectively not hired and/or are not promoted. Or, when people with the ‘wrong’ political views (e.g. conservatives) are not hired or promoted within an organization/entity that is mostly of a different political persuasion (e.g. the liberal news media, or academic institutions). Or, when women who decide to stay at home and raise children are looked down upon by women who prioritize their careers.
The bottom line is that tolerance is not just about race, and those pointing fingers of ‘virtue’ are generally blind to their own prejudices, biases, and racism equivalents.
Well this Catholic is voting Trump!

Liberation Theology in various forms is RAMPANT in the Catholic Church, esp. as spread by the Jesuits and their fronts (Quixote Center, etc.) and has been since the 70’s.

Why I have in-laws all around, some have attended prominent Catholic schools of higher education and they alll LOVE Obama... It is a sight to observe as they Maddcow excuse the intended destruction of this nation.

So it may be, but, on theological grounds, the Catholic Church has long opposed racism and became a special target of the Klan for doing so. Justice Clarence Thomas remembers with great affection the Catholic nuns who taught him in elementary school. They were staunch advocates for their Black students and sought to inspire them to pride and accomplishment.
Racism is not the problem. Hatred, humanism and secularism is the problem. As I look around me, I see mixed families with mixed races of children everywhere, exuding love and looking happy and content. We all know what this is. This is my prayer for those who are trying to use a false charge to divide us. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
