Genesis 1:27 "God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created them."
If you want to know what God is like, go into your bathroom and look in the mirror at yourself,
and you will see and know what God is like. You were created in God's image.
( I obviously do NOT mean your physical image or your physical appearance. )
I interpret the "image of God" in Genesis 1:27 to be as follows:
(1) God has an Intellect --- man has an Intellect.
(2) God has a Free Will (volition) --- man has a Free Will
(3) God has Emotions --- man has Emotions.
These are the 3 major areas that demonstrate the image of God in human beings.
Further breakdown of the 3 major areas.
(4) God is Creative --- man is Creative.
(5) God can Love --- man can Love.
(6) God can Cry ("Jesus wept") --- man can Cry.
(7) God can be Jealous --- man can be Jealous.
( 8 ) God can experience Joy --- man can experience Joy.
(9) God can have Patience --- man can have Patience.
(10) God can express Kindness --- man can express Kindness.
(11) God can express Gentleness --- man can express Gentleness.
(12) God can express Wrath --- man can express Wrath.
(13) God creates Magnificent Art Works (in nature) --- man creates Magnificent Art Works (eg. cathedrals)
(14) God Writes Books (the Bible) --- man Writes Books.
(15) God feels Empathy --- man feels Empathy.
(16) God feels Sympathy --- man feels Sympathy.
(17) God makes Long-Term Plans --- man makes Long-Term Plans.
(18 )God can Speak --- man can Speak
Yes, God made man in His own image.

There is much more that can be added to that up there.

Then why did you say go look in a mirror?
“If you want to know what God is like, go into your bathroom and look in the mirror at yourself, and you will see and know what God is like. You were created in God’s image.”
Best question of the day
We didn’t get the no illness or not needing glasses part though :)
Yes all that and we are 3 in one ..Spirit, Soul and Body..
I’d like to jump in. When I first read his comment about looking in the mirror, I had the same reaction.
BUT THEN, as he went on and listed all those ‘qualities’ that make up God and Mankind, I understood what he meant.
When you look in the mirror, exactly what do you see? Do you just see a face ? Do you see only a face, a reflection, and nothing else?
No. You see yourself and all the qualities you have. You don’t even really see exactly what is there, in that you have a prejudiced opinion of who and what you are. We ‘see’ other people based on our relationship with them and the ‘qualities’ they have. If you hate someone, you usually ‘see’ them as ugly. If you love someone, you usually ‘see’ them as beautiful. You may see someone as beautiful, and a week later see them as ugly. Even though their appearance DID NOT change.
SO....I think the author is intending for you to get past your ‘physical’ image and accept that we are ‘like’ God in those things we SEE about ourselves that go beyond a mere mortal countenance.
I think it is pretty obvious that God did NOT make us in his IMAGE, based on the fact that we could not exist as mortals on Earth if we ‘looked’ exactly like God.
In the Bible, the word IMAGE is used, but we have a different interpretation of that ENGLISH word TODAY that may not be what was originally intended. Especially since, back then, no one had a camera that we know of, and We all see something different when we look at other people.
We assume IMAGE means ‘looks’ (like a photograph takes an IMAGE), and that obviously is not what God meant. I think using LOGICAL PATTERN or LOGICAL DESIGN would , these days, make more sense to us.
I doubt God had much to do with our personal appearance as mortals, as our body is a construct of the environment and our thoughts.
Ergo, what God created ‘in his image’ was the things that make us ‘like God’, the things that make us HUMAN.
We all may like to think (or just have habitually accepted the idea that) we look JUST LIKE GOD . Our depictions of God sure show it that way.
But, It just isn’t true.
God does not have arms?
Deuteronomy 33:26 There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.
In a world filled with consensus kings, paralyzed committees, policy wonks, and union contracts, the God of Israel really stands out from the crowd.
He is not an automaton making robots, but rather the maverick “Can-DO” solution to business, filled with vision and love for quality and unique signature styles.
The culture of the “Sum Ting Wong” pilots is the fear of questioning superiors or of expressing individual ideas. Don’t pipe up, don’t rock the boat. Result: Bang Ding Ow.
One of my favorite scenes in the Bible is where Abraham is trying to problem-solve in order to salvage Sodom. Reads more like an auction.
50, do I hear 50? 45, 45 Lord? How about if I can only get 40? 30? 20? 10?
Well no success with the bulk units. Had to break it down to indidivual items to move out the few that had any value..
Lot - This term refers to either an individual object or a group of objects that are offered for sale at auction as a single unit. Each lot is assigned a number in our catalog for easy identification during the auction. Minimum Opening Bid - The lowest staring price that will be accepted by the auctioneer.

Because I reasoned that everybody would
have enough common sense to know I wanted
them to think of themselves as human
beings as explained further down in
the Opening Post:
{1} Emotional Beings.
{2} Intellectual Beings.
{3} Volitional Beings {Free Will}
I could have said “just THINK of yourself”, but
I decided to use the bathroom mirror instead.
More tangible.
More concrete.
Less abstract.

“God does not have arms?”___Fungi
The Bible presents God often using anthropomorphic
language which means “described or thought of
as having a human form or human attribute.”
Some examples:
{1{ The arm of the Lord.
{2} The eyes of the Lord.
{3} The Lord came down to see
Of course, this does not mean that God actually has arms and eyes, etc.
Good points.
Helpful and interesting contribution to the thread.
Thanks.
