Eucharistic processions were even more reverent. Altar boys would continually incense the path before Our Lord. In order to show the incense was to honor God they would face the Blessed Sacrament and thus have to carefully walk backwards as they incensed. Four men would carry a liturgical canopy which covered the Blessed Sacrament, reminiscent of the Old Testament tent of the tabernacle.
