Catholics Fire Back After D.C. Archbishop Attacks Donald Trump

A number of prominent Catholics have reacted strongly to a statement by Washington, DC, Archbishop Wilton Gregory denouncing President Trump for visiting a shrine to Pope John Paul II.

.....................................................

In a column titled “Baffling and Reprehensible,” Catholic author and journalist Phil Lawler enumerated seven problems underlying the archbishop’s statement, including its blatant partisanship and divisiveness.

The archbishop published his “inflammatory statement” without bothering to check the facts, Lawler observes, noting that the president’s visit to the shrine had no connection with the demonstrations but had been planned well ahead to coincide with the release of an executive order on international religious freedom.

Lawler also notes that Archbishop Gregory has “given over the pulpit of his cathedral” to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, an ardent defender of abortion on demand, suggesting a “hypocritical” double standard.

It is strange that Archbishop Gregory “blithely overlooks the most evident display of racial disparity on our nation: the systematic extermination of African-Americans in the womb, aided and abetted by the liberal Catholic politicians who welcomed the archbishop’s latest petulant outburst,” he said.

But no one will know about these Catholics firing back. The DC Bishop lambasting Trump, on the other hand, was carried widely.

Everybody and their sister (and I’ll bring a general Mattis and George will ) know that soon as you say anything negative about our great and wonderful president ,Donald J Trump ,the media will put you first and foremost and repeat whatever you said , however inflammatory and false

This occurs day in and day out and they will make you a media star for a couple days

this is been going on for a number of years and will not stop

fortunately the media at this point has no credibility with regular Americans and more and more simply just turning off the news

I for one have never had television in my house and I maintain that it’s a very important part of why my children are so well-adjusted and well behaved -they’ve never watched television

Media also gave wide coverage to the women Episcopal clergy who decried Trump’s visit t St. John’s Episcopal church.

I have not heard anyone in the media state the fact that rioters tried to burn down the church. Such a fact might make some think about the context of Trump going there.

To me, Trump going there made a strong positive statement. To people such as Episcopal clergy who were angry at Trump for not getting official permission to visit the church, among other offenses, virtue signaling is apparently more important than thanking God that their church didn’t burn down.

“To me, Trump going there made a strong positive statement. “

Definitely! I love the President and love him even more for his walk over to the church with his Bible.

Very symbolic and very heartening.

Catholics and episcopalians were pissed when they wanted to appear self righteous. They need to reflect on their history when it comes to racism and slavery and screwing people (entire cultures) for money.

A 'false shepherd' is how Archbishop Vigano describes the DC archbishop:

Just because there is a bad Pope does not make the Catholic Church a bad church. Nor does it make you a bad Catholic.

Continue to pray and attend Mass.

To add as well, people have to remember there are many awesome Prelates in the Church.. Cdl Sarah comes to mind very easily - Cdl Burke and others of the un-answered "Dubia" also come o mind.... Many others who are not as out spoken as well who will never get positive media are out there....

Everyone needs to remember the journalist's commandment that requires only that which bleeds can lead their spotlight... and so which will allow friend AND foe to denigrate the ONE (true) Holy, catholic and Apostolic Church....

Official permission to stand in front of the church is not required
it’s not a mosque. Did you read the ALL ARE WELCOME sign?
