Washington state Catholic leaders would rather stick it to the president than let him defend their right to celebrate Mass. Following President Donald Trumps direction on Friday for states to allow houses of worship to reopened and to declare public worship as essential, Gov. Jay Inslee immediately thumbed his nose, and Washington bishops quickly follow suit.
In a disappointing response, the bishops demonstrated that rather than stand up for their flock and acknowledge the presidents commitment to religious freedom, they prefer hand-wringing and waffling while they wait for the governor to pass judgement. The bishops have shared with the governor broad practical guidelines outlining how Washington Catholics can safely return to public worship. It is their understanding that these are in review with the Governors office now, and they are look[ing] forward to his rapid response.
Why exactly are the bishops waiting? Although insisting that their love of God and neighbor is always personal and not partisan, the letter makes it clear that the bishops are giving a big thanks-but-no-thanks to Trump. Instead they are throwing their lot in with a secular state government that is perilously close to violating a constitutionally protected freedom. Bishops are keeping sacraments suspended indefinitely and allowing Washington churches to be treated differently than other establishments in terms of opening.
The governor has been unable to explain why gathering for worship is riskier than shopping in a supermarket or gathering in a restaurant, and the bishops continued acceptance of this arbitrary and discriminatory position is a slap in the face to Catholics.
Rather than urging Catholics to defend their faith and right to worship, the bishops response Friday reflects the ...

I think the main reason is that the Catholic Church needs illegal aliens. When dealing with libs, follow the money!!! :-)
The Catholic Church has separated itself from the Catholic Faith.
All five bishops that signed that letter are cowards. They’ve exposed their soft underbelly just like that fake communist pope in Rome. The Catholic Church has become totally politicized. The Church claims that abortion is a mortal sin yet supports politicians such as Inslee and his wife who believe abortion is a sacrament and fund those abortions with our tax money. I was baptized a Roman Catholic at two months and stayed with the faith for 68 years. I’m totally done. I’m looking elsewhere to worship. Actually, I’ve been headed for the door for years but this is it. Just because the leadership in the Church is on a fast track to hell doesn’t mean I have to join them.
The USCCB has no idea of what is coming down the road for them.
They better find some very good real estate brokers.
California — Churches and other houses of worship also will be allowed to reopen, he said, but must follow the states guideline of limiting services to 25% of their normal capacity, or 100 people, whichever is smaller.
Washington can have groups of 50 with social distancing.
What wrong with Oregon with only 25 people allowed in churches?

I’m 62, baptized Catholic and returned in my mid-30s after not practicing for a long time. I am fed up too, and looking for an Eastern Rite in my area. My father was Serbian Orthodox. Now I do go to a conservative, reverent parish where I live, but I still can’t believe how easily the catholic church cowed to the ban. There is fodder for a thousand books and articles on churches’ acquiescence to the lockdown. A historical and probably heretical response for sure. A few billion fewer Holy Communions worldwide had to leave a spiritual scar.
During the Arian heresy, only four or five bishops in the world remained faithful, and the Church bounced back. It’s not worth sweating over a few Judases.
“Render unto Caesar...” has a new meaning for these modern Bishops.... ugh....
