The Church doesn't seem to do that much any more.
It's not supposed to be done except in situations like...well, right before a battle.

I thought he played Gen. Lee as a halting, tight-lipped autocrat, overruling Longstreet imperiously when the latter cautioned against Pettigrew's charge on the final day and when he warned against the Confederates' vulnerability on the right flank near the Round Tops.
In that, I think he was somewhat constrained by the screenplay and the novel upon which it was based.

Would this apply to the ones who were not believers in Christ?
Only Christ knows the answer to that question, but I suspect that many at that moment became believers.

Thanks, Homer J. Are you in the FB Civil War groups? If not, you should post there. They are big, active, and they would very much appreciate your content.

On FB I link my FR posts to the American Civil War group. That was the third CW group I tried. They aren't all equal. The first had lame admins who wouldn't reply to questions about why they wouldn't approve some of my posts. The second was mainly interested in posts about black soldiers in the Confederate army. The American Civil War group is decent. I have a few regular "likers" there.
I also link my FR posts on Twitter. My new handle is @USADeardorff. My original account, which I had since 2009, got banned when I was reported for hateful activity by a prog SJW who was offended by some good advice I gave her. Or it.

Try “The Original Civil War Buff” on Face Book. I have found that to be the most active and receptive CW audience on F Book.

Nice post. FWIW—the French colonial priests served as chaplains not only to French soldiers, but to Catholic Indians.
I heard a talk by a Quebecois historian on the topic, recounting battles on the plains where one side was almost entirely Catholic, the other pagan, and the only whites present were the priests.

I'm almost certain that is correct, though I couldn't point to a particular battle. The Catholic Indians and pagan Indians were usually enemies before the former became Catholic.

Yep. Just like in the Balkans where ethnic hatred has managed to survive several changes in religion by various groups.

One Civil War movie I saw years ago and have never been able to find again, was "Journey to Shiloh."That movie seems to have been memory holed. Unable to view anywhere. Almost as if Big Brother ordered Winston Smith to destroy it.
