I left the Catholic church over 30 years ago and it was liberating.
I am closer to God now than I ever was when I believed I needed the church as an intermediary.

I also left when the hierarchy of the Church lost its way. Dealing with humans means error will intrude. There is no obligation for any extra person to “pave one’s way” to salvation.
But people can certainly mislead a soul. God will not.

If you were consistent, you would have renounced your American citizenship when Obama was elected, and then come on FR to tell us how much closer you "felt" to the Founders having done so.
BTW, I don't think my own feelings are necessarily trustworthy, so I'm certainly not going to be swayed by yours.
