Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
Blessed and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
How Mighty and Perfect is Your Word,
Like Apples of Gold
In Settings of Silver.
How Lovely Are Your Precepts,
Which are like a Refining Fire.
Being Refined is not Always Pleasant,
But When You See Yourself Reflected In Our Lives,
You, The Master Goldsmith,
The Ultimate Creative Artist,
Will have remade us again in Your Image.
We hunger and thirst for You,
Change Our hearts through the refining Fire of Your Word
That we may walk in Your Way.
Thank You, Abba Father,
For Being Our Hiding Place,
Our Deliverer,
Our Rock,
and Our Redeemer!
Fill Our Days With Songs Of Deliverance,
For Ourselves,
Our Families,
Our Nation,
and For Your People Israel!
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Miss McCoy, my ninth-grade music teacher had an awesome idea. Our Annual Glee Club Show was coming up, and the teacher had decided upon a Patriotic Theme. The stage in the auditorium of the aging Junior High School had a narrow shelf across the back, about a foot wide, and about seven feet high. Every time we had a rehearsal, she would make six boys get up onto the shelf and hold a pole (used for opening the 12-foot windows) up in the air. The boys wiggled and squirmed and did Jr. High Boy things, like jumping off the shelf, dancing, and generally cutting-up like adolescents do. Meanwhile, we more "mature" girls practiced our medleys by Irving Berlin and George M. Cohan, and laughed at the boys' antics. We all knew that the show was going to be a perfect disaster.
The night of the show, we girls all dressed up with our little heels, nylon stockings, and white blouses with black skirts. Many of us had even had our hair done at beauty salons that day. We were beautiful. We waited for the curtain to open, but were quite nervous about the six boys behind us, bumbling around on that high narrow shelf, doing God-Knows-What with the window pole. Then the curtain opened. There was a moment of hushed, incomprehensible silence.
Then, suddenly the audience erupted into incredible, earth-shattering applause. People stood up, cheering, and some of the older dads actually had tears in their eyes. We hadn't even started to sing yet! What was going on? I slowly, stealthily, turned around, and saw the six boys who were perfectly still, wearing Marine Battle uniforms, and were a living diorama of the iconic picture of The Flag Raising at Iwo Jima. It was several minutes before we could even begin to sing, but the boys held the pose for the entire concert.
Today's Hebrew Worship Word means literally to "Raise a Banner". One of the names of God is also "God, My Banner". Miss McCoy may not have known how amazingly powerful that living diorama was going to be, but the event was pivotal in the lives of the generation of the Moms and Dads at the Assembly. It is even possible that some of the Dads in audience saw the ORIGINAL event that prompted the famous photograph. When the Flag was raised on Mt. Suribachi, it could be seen down on the beach, where fighting was still taking place. The Battle was not over. But the raising of the Flag was one of the things that encouraged the men to fight on. And so, let that be what our banners of faith do. We can see Our Banner from where we are, still fighting the good fight and running the race. Today's Prayer Word tells us to lift our Banner High, so all can see, to give us courage, and be the Sign of our Faith.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Brought tears to my eyes, too. You won’t see many schools today putting on a show like that.
