Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Hebrew Worship Words

Saphar

Psalm 9:14
that I may declare your praises
in the gates of Daughter Zion,
and there rejoice in your salvation.

Psalm 79:13
Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture,
    will praise you forever;
from generation to generation
    we will proclaim your praise.

Isaiah 43:21
the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

.

"Saphar" means to "score with a mark", to count, to inscribe, to celebrate, to recount, show, or tell. It is the verb God used when He asked abraham if he could "count the stars".

Strong's Concordance 5608
saphar: to count, recount, relate
Original Word: סָפַר
Part of Speech: verb; noun masculine
Transliteration: saphar

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Hallowed,
Magnificent,
and Sanctified
is Your Most Holy Name!
How Blessed and How True is Your Word,
and How Mighty!
How Glorious,
to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space
With Your Word and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The following poem is from the Victorian Era, and is in the form of a Sonnet:

How Do I Love Thee? (Sonnet 43)
(Elizabeth Barrett Browning - 1806-1861)

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

While this is in no way a "religious" poem, it does illustrate today's Hebrew Worship Word perfectly. The root word means to enumerate, to count, to list, or otherwise make an accounting. In ancient times, this was done with a stylus into soft clay tablets, which then dried and became permanent. Thus, the word also means "to inscribe".

Although the root word for "Inscribe" is a different one in Isaiah 49 (I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands), I could not help but be reminded of the Scripture. Here is how the two words differ:

Today's word means to count, list, or enumerate, much like Elizabeth Barret Browning's poem.

In Isaiah, the word is Strong's Concordance 2710, "chaqaq", which means to cut in, inscribe, or decree. It is derived from quarry workers cutting into stone, so it is a very powerful word.

And so, while Browning's poem enumerates the heights and depths of human love, Isaiah's prophecy tells of the love that God has for us, which is infinitely deeper. And as the Apostle John said:

“We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

And there is no way anyone can count that!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
