Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Bless the LORD,
Oh My Soul,
and let All That is Within Me Bless His Most Holy Name!
Abba Father, Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God!
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Rock of All Ages!
It is You, and You Alone,
Who Created All Things,
And You Alone Who Know The End from The Beginning,
And the Beginning from The End.
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

One of the characters in Gilbert & Sullivan's "MIKADO" is a very haughty nobleman named "Pooh-Bah". "Pooh-Bah" is not a Japanese name, but is, in fact, derived from the initials "PBUH" which Islamic writers always insert after the name of their prophet. It stands for "Peace Be Upon Him". Victorian-Age Brits found this to be a ridiculous affectation, and so the expression "Pooh-Bah" was born. It is now part of our vocabulary and we know that "The Grand Pooh-Bah" is the same as "The Big Kahuna" which is derived from the Hawaiian Language!
The origins of words in our English Language is a fascinating thing. Because of Great Britain's far-flung empire at the beginning of the Twentieth Century, many words in English have their origins in the Far East, like "thug" from the cult of Kali in India, "pundit" also from India, "sofa" from Arabic-speaking people, and "ottoman" from, you guessed it, the Ottoman Empire.
From China, we get the word "kowtow" which means to prostrate oneself before a ruler or powerful person. The problem is that the Ancient Chinese had such rigid social divisions and such worship of their Emperor, that the British found all the kowtowing to be ridiculous. Even though "with all their faults they loved their Queen," the people of Victorian England could not imagine kowtowing to her. And thus, the word has come down to us with a built-in sneer. Some people might even call it "racist". (Not me! It is what it is.)
Anyway, that brings us to today's Hebrew word for worship. The reason we don't "kowtow" to humans is because that kind of reverence is reserved for God Alone. A polite bow is appropriate, and, of course proper respect should be given to our earthly authorities, but prostrating oneself before anyone in worship is idolatry. Even Angels are not "kowtow-able" if I may coin a phrase. In both the Book of Daniel (OT) and The Book of Revelation (NT) an angel rebukes the prophet for prostrating themselves before him. "Get up!" he says."Don't worship me! Worship GOD!"
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
