Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)
Psalms
Psalm 149
1 Praise the Lord.[a]
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.
2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
3 Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music to him with timbrel and harp.
4 For the Lord takes delight in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor
and sing for joy on their beds.
6 May the praise of God be in their mouths
and a double-edged sword in their hands,
7 to inflict vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with fetters,
their nobles with shackles of iron,
9 to carry out the sentence written against them
this is the glory of all his faithful people.
Praise the Lord.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Due to the Quarantine, my Antique Harley-Davidson is still sitting in my brother's barn, 26 miles away. It is registered and legal, but, since we are supposed to stay home, I can't get anyone to drive me the 26 miles to get the bike. It's raining today anyway, so I'll just let it go. I was doing my usual kvetching about feeling "powerless" when my 6-year-old grand-nephew William said:
"Auntie, don't you know that 'With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility'?"
I was floored! "Where did you learn that?" I asked.
"From SPIDERMAN!"
OK, I'm not a big fan of SPIDERMAN, but that's a good line. However, Psalm 149 illustrated it long before SPIDERMAN was a thing.
The Psalm is framed by Hallelujahs, has a two verse Intro, followed by two Stanzas of four Verses each. The First Stanza is a wonderful song of praise. It celebrates the Salvation, Honor, and Glory that God has bestowed upon His Chosen People.
But, like SPIDERMAN's maxim, this Honor and Glory is a two-edged sword. The second Stanza exhorts God's People to execute judgement and to carry out His sentence upon the wicked. That is not nearly as much fun as praising God in the Sanctuary with all kinds of musical instruments, dancing, and meditating with joy upon our beds.
But just as I need to wear my helmet, register my vehicle, pay for the safety inspection, keep the tires, brakes, lights, and mirrors in good shape, and obey the Traffic Laws, with great power comes great responsibility.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth. " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)

Also praying: Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! For He has strengthened and made hard the bars of your gates, and He has blessed your children within you. He makes peace in your borders; He fills you with the finest of the wheat. He sends forth His commandment to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. He gives [to the earth] snow like [a blanket of] wool; He scatters the hoarfrost like ashes. He casts forth His ice like crumbs; who can stand before His cold? He sends out His word, and melts [ice and snow]; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow. He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel. [Mal. 4:4.] He has not dealt so with any [other] nation; they have not known (understood, appreciated, given heed to, and cherished) His ordinances. Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) [Ps. 79:6; Jer. 10:25.] Psalm 147:12-20 AMPC
