Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalms

Psalm 148

1 Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
2 Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
3 Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the skies.

5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for at his command they were created,
6 and he established them for ever and ever—
    he issued a decree that will never pass away.

7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
    stormy winds that do his bidding,
9 you mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
    small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women,
    old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn,[b]

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!

From The Rising of the Sun,
To its Setting,
You Name Shall be Praised.
For You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe!

We Come into Your Presence With Singing
And Into Your Courts With Praise,
For Your Are Eternal,
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
Just And Righteous,
Our Creator,
and The Creator of All That Is!

It Is You That Command Nature and All It Contains,

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

During the early 60's, the Long-Playing 33 1/2 RPM phonograph record underwent a technological change. "Mono" became "Stereo" and, of course, Daddy drew pictures to explain to me the difference. "Mono" had the same wavy pattern on each side of the groove, while Stereo had different waves on each side. This meant that different sounds came from left and right, entering our ears on left and right, and thus giving the illusion of three dimensions. The only problem was that the old Hi-Fi needle was not delicate enough to track these new complex grooves, and would instantly destroy the new records. And so, Daddy and I went shopping and came home with a HUGE Motorola Three Channel Stereo Console, with a big 12" Woofer in the center, and a "Tweeter" and 8" mid-range speaker on either side. In deference to Mom, it was a beautiful piece of furniture as well, with a smooth cherry wood finish and nubby cloth over the speaker grills. The first Stereo Record I ever heard was "Belefonte at Carnegie Hall" and I actually felt as though I was right there in the concert.

Across the front of every Stereo Record was the Notice:

THIS RECORD IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED ON STEREO EQUIPMENT WITH A STEREO CARTRIDGE AND NEEDLE.

In my now defunct side business of finding old vinyl records and reselling them , I ran across some Heavy Metal albums that bore the inscription:

'THIS RECORD IS MEANT TO BE PLAYED LOUD."

It was an obvious parody on the old Stereo Records, which made their debut during my childhood.

Psalm 148 is a Glorious Hymn of Praise which just bursts at the seams with exuberance.

It is framed by an Intro and a Coda that both exclaim "HALLELUJAH!" and then has two balanced Stanzas of six lines each, followed by a two-line conclusion. It is considered a "Liturgical Psalm", and is meant to be played LOUD.

They are indeed. The only reason my business is now "defunked" is because of the Quarantine. I really hope I can get back into the "Swing" of things once this is past us.

I've lost a big chunk of my income due to this. Oh well, I am better off than a lot of people, so I can't complain.
