New York City Mayor Bill de Blasios assertion that churches and synagogues will be permanently closed if they refuse to obey a stay-at-home order banning large gatherings in light of the coronavirus pandemic has drawn the ire of national Christian leaders.
At a March 27 press briefing, de Blasio singled out Christian and Jewish congregations and threatened that agents would shut down their houses of worship if they held in-person services.
A small number of religious communities, specific churches and specific synagogues are unfortunately not paying attention to this guidance even though its so widespread, de Blasio said.
The Democrat mayor further warned that if the congregations refuse to disperse, the city would take additional action up to the point of fines and potentially closing the building permanently.
Its the last thing I would like to do because I understand how important peoples faiths are to them and we need our faiths in this time of crisis. But we do not need gatherings that will endanger people, de Blasio argued. No faith tradition endorses anything that endangers the members of that faith.

Mosques exempted
And that’s part of what makes it so damn illegal.
Are you surmising that mosques are exempted, or is that a known?
Well, the omission was glaring.

.
The way he said this was not cavalier or unimportant.
It is ALWAYS deliverately, worded, on purpose.
Omissions are deliberately omitted. On purpose.
Those who choose to gather during this time are placing my right to life in jeopardy. Having said that, threat of permanent closure is clearly unconstitutional. Typical lib overreach....
No wonder mosques were exempted. That's one faith tradition that doesn't endanger its own... but it sure as hell will endanger everyone else's.
Churches and synagogues dont tend to issue fatwahs ordering decapitation.
Then the word needs to be spread — it INCLUDES MOSQUES.
Bill de Blasio murdered an injection groundhog and had it covered up.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio does not have the authority to permanently remove sections of the Constitution’s First Amendment from select portions of the population either.
You never know exactly who might attend that church or synagogue.
.
I fail to understand the logic that a government ‘temporarily’ closing a church under threat of arrest and prosecution is somehow Constitutional but the permanent closing of them is not Constitutional.
Oh yes, I am sure you will say that somehow the public good in the short run is outweighed by my right (which is specifically delineated in the First Amendment) to go to church and risk my own life by doing so.
I suggest simply, if one does not want to risk this disease, stay home until it passes or, stay home forever for that matter, because disease is an omnipresent reality of life.
Once government gets involved to restrict a citizen’s personal liberties, we get into the exact argument that the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution in the first place.

There were large groups gathered at local parks this weekend here in S.Louisiana. Even tho the governor closed parks like the churches. No one social distancing. They’re risking my life so selfishly.
Wonder why the cops didn’t arrest anybody there?
This sets precedence now. We better get used to house churches or arrest.
During the 16th century priests HAD to hide--thus, "priest holes."
Religious intolerance is, unfortunately, part of human nature. Works both ways.
I trust civil disobedience in-mass is close at hand.

Oh yes.
Put on your armor.
