Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalms

Psalm 143

A psalm of David.

1 Lord, hear my prayer,
    listen to my cry for mercy;
in your faithfulness and righteousness
    come to my relief.
2 Do not bring your servant into judgment,
    for no one living is righteous before you.
3 The enemy pursues me,
    he crushes me to the ground;
he makes me dwell in the darkness
    like those long dead.
4 So my spirit grows faint within me;
    my heart within me is dismayed.
5 I remember the days of long ago;
    I meditate on all your works
    and consider what your hands have done.
6 I spread out my hands to you;
    I thirst for you like a parched land.[a]

7 Answer me quickly, Lord;
    my spirit fails.
Do not hide your face from me
    or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.
9 Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
    for I hide myself in you.
10 Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
    lead me on level ground.

11 For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life;
    in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.
12 In your unfailing love, silence my enemies;
    destroy all my foes,
    for I am your servant.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
Blessed Are You, Oh LORD,
Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are Worthy; You Alone Are Holy;
You Alone Are Righteous and Just;
And You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham!
How Wonderful Are Your Precepts;
How Precious Is Your WORD!
How Eternal and Sure Are Your Promises!

Abba Father,
In a world of duplicity,
In A World of Unfaithfulness,
It is natural for people to assume that You Have
Forgotten Your Promises.
Have They Not Heard?
Even when we are not Faithful, You Are.
The Grass Withers,
And The Flowers Fade,
But Your Word Abides Forever.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 143 crosses categories. It is part of this little songbook of six, attributed to David. It is a prayer for deliverance. It is also one of the seven "Penitential Psalms", an arbitrary designation based upon its theme of Repentance. The quintessential "Penitential Psalm" is, of course, Psalm 51.

This Psalm is in two halves, framed in the opening and closing verses with the self-declaration of servant-hood to God. The first half presents David's appeal and describes his distress and suffering. The second half is David's prayer for deliverance.

Verse 3 has an interesting parallel with Lamentations 3:6, as it describes the darkness and separation from life's former enjoyments. (One could argue that we are all facing that right now).

Verses 5-6 is a recollection of God's Mighty and Gracious acts.

Verse 7 gives us the solution:...my spirit fails...I hide myself in You..."

Once again, this Psalm has come up in our studies at a most appropriate time.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)
