I would err on the side of how the Bible describes it all! The book of Revelation only takes about an hour to read and besides the Lord promises blessings to those who read and hear it. Have a listen!

I'm quite familiar with the Book of Revelation, having read it many times, and having listened to formal Bible studies of it by Scripture scholars.

I don't assume that it was exclusively written to describe events far in the future. In fact, it explicitly says that that's not what it's about (v 1:1).
