I'm quite familiar with the Book of Revelation, having read it many times, and having listened to formal Bible studies of it by Scripture scholars.

I don't assume that it was exclusively written to describe events far in the future. In fact, it explicitly says that that's not what it's about (v 1:1).

And it's far from unusual for Scripture and prophecy to have dual fulfillment, one for the present and one for the future concerning the reign of Christ.
