Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalms

Psalm 141

A psalm of David.

1 I call to you, Lord, come quickly to me;
    hear me when I call to you.
2 May my prayer be set before you like incense;
    may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

3 Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;
    keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil
    so that I take part in wicked deeds
along with those who are evildoers;
    do not let me eat their delicacies.

5 Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness;
    let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head.
My head will not refuse it,
    for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.

6 Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs,
    and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
7 They will say, “As one plows and breaks up the earth,
    so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave.”

8 But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord;
    in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
9 Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers,
    from the snares they have laid for me.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
    while I pass by in safety.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
Honor, Glory and Worship,
For Your Alone Are The One True God!
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
Holy, Righteous, and Just,
There is No One Like You!
Our Creator, and Creator of All That Is,
You Are The Great I AM,
And All Of Creation Sings of Your Glory!

Abba Father, We Run To You For Refuge,
To Your Everlasting Arms.
You Are Our High Tower,
Our Refuge and Our Strength,
Our Ever-Present Help in Times of Trouble!
Let Our cries Rise to You amidst the tumult and noise of this age,
For You Are The God Who Sees All, and Hears All!

When we are confronted by the success of the wicked,
Keep us assured that it is only for a season.
When we see them dance in the streets at our misfortune,
Give us the quiet confidence that we are Your beloved.
When they mock at us,
And say "Where is Your God?",
Give Us The Words to Say That Lift Up Your Name,
And Give us the Victory.

As a Good Father chastises His Children,
You chastise us.
As a Fine Jeweler cleaves a diamond,
So You recreate us in Your Image Daily.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

ML/LTOS

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Yesterday, I ranted a bit about Broadway Musicals, and may have left questions and puzzles behind. "WHAT was THAT all about", some of you may be thinking. "This is SUPPOSED to be a Bible Study!"

Well, yes, it is a Daily Devotional (not quite a study in the strictest sense of the word, because we can only explore so much each day and keep it moving). The reason I brought up Broadway Musicals was to illustrate how quickly we can discern the "voice" of individual composers. Opera lovers can discern Puccini from Verdi, Wagner from Mozart, and Bizet from Offenbach just by hearing a snippet of the music. That is because we recognize the "voice" of the composer, despite the fact that we may be hearing the melody for the first time. Even in modern music, as masked as it is by electronics and computer sequencing, we can still discern the "voice" of the artist coming through.

The voice of David comes through these Psalms so clearly that it seems that they should be at the front of the Psalter rather than near the end. But the order of the Psalter is like an arc, even though it is a collection of several songbooks, collections, and composers. Its order and cohesiveness tells a story, just as the entire Bible does.

Psalm 141 is made up of two halves of equal length with a couplet in the middle as a pivot. Verse 5 (Let the righteous man strike me) is the turning point between the two themes.

David makes this very personal and physical and mentions all these body parts: hands, mouth, lips, heart, head, bones, and eyes. He asks God to give him restraint and self-control, two Fruits of the Holy Spirit that David, to his own shame, often lacked.

I can identify with David here. I have been known to shoot off my mouth without thinking, and sometimes suffer for YEARS over it.

And so, once again, the Voice of God, through the Voice of David, gives us inspiration in times of trouble!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)

The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

Speaking of a voice, how about this? “Psalm 49:4 (AMPC)
4 I will submit and consent to a parable or proverb; to the music of a lyre I will unfold my riddle (my problem).
