Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalms

Psalm 140[a]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 Rescue me, Lord, from evildoers;
    protect me from the violent,
2 who devise evil plans in their hearts
    and stir up war every day.
3 They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s;
    the poison of vipers is on their lips.[b]

4 Keep me safe, Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
    protect me from the violent,
    who devise ways to trip my feet.
5 The arrogant have hidden a snare for me;
    they have spread out the cords of their net
    and have set traps for me along my path.

6 I say to the Lord, “You are my God.”
    Hear, Lord, my cry for mercy.
7 Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer,
    you shield my head in the day of battle.
8 Do not grant the wicked their desires, Lord;
    do not let their plans succeed.

9 Those who surround me proudly rear their heads;
    may the mischief of their lips engulf them.
10 May burning coals fall on them;
    may they be thrown into the fire,
    into miry pits, never to rise.
11 May slanderers not be established in the land;
    may disaster hunt down the violent.

12 I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor
    and upholds the cause of the needy.
13 Surely the righteous will praise your name,
    and the upright will live in your presence.

Footnotes:

1. Psalm 140:1 In Hebrew texts 140:1-13 is numbered 140:2-14.
2. Psalm 140:3 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here and at the end of verses 5 and 8.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
How Blessed and Hallowed is Your Most Wonderful and Holy Name!
You Alone are Worthy To Be Praised and Worshiped,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
The Creator, Sustainer, and Destroyer of All Things.

Abba Father, There is So Much Evil in our World!
Every Day we hear another story of how the wicked plot together
Against You, or against the people who love You.
Every Day, Another leak,
another lie,
another revelation of duplicity,
Of plots and schemes.
Expose them to the Light, Oh LORD!
For their wickedness can flourish only under the cover of darkness.

We Pray especially against the evil snares set by enemies,
In the form of suicide bombs, IED's,
Pestilence and bioweapons,
Which are evil, dishonorable, and vile.
We pray for the protection of the people the USA,
from the very thing spoken of in this Ancient Psalm.

We Pray, Father, That Your relieve the Anxieties of Our People,
So that the wicked will not even have a "victory" over our minds and hearts.

According To Your Word, Dear Father,
Let Whoever digs a pit to ensnare others,
Fall into it himself.

Thank You, Father,
For The Assurance of Your precious and Eternal Word!

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Father God, You are merciful, holy and Truth. We pray together for the persecuted church, for our brothers and sisters impacted economically or medically by this virus. We pray that as a nation, we would seek restoration in You. Amen

CAUTION! Opinionated Musical Opinion To Follow!!!!

In the latter half of the Twentieth century, Musical Theater experienced a revolution of sorts. In London's West End, and then Broadway, the typical form of the American Stage Musical became more operatic, with the dialogue between the songs SUNG instead of spoken. The composer who was at the forefront of this change could arguably be Andrew Lloyd Webber. His initiation into the genre was entitled "Jesus Christ, Superstar", and was called a "Rock Opera" rather than a "Musical". Since his girlfriend was a lyric soprano who could hit a high "E", the songs became more operatic in sound, and the "Rock" part of "Rock Opera" was dropped.

Webber's "operas" took over Broadway, and other composers followed suit. "Les Miserables" and "Miss Saigon", by composers Alain Boublil Herbert Kretzmer Claude-Michel Schönberg, can be legitimately called "Operas" as they are sung from beginning to end.

Unfortunately, the "operatic" quality of this genre is uneven at best. While some are like the Golden Age of Broadway, with dozens of Hit Songs sung by Jazz and Pop artists, most of the songs in modern musicals are appropriate only within the setting of the entire piece, and fall flat when removed from their protective cocoon. For this reason, Webber's musical ALWAYS featured at least one song that could stand alone and become a hit. The prime example is "Memory" from "CATS", and some musicians will argue that it sounds suspiciously a lot like Puccini. (For the Record, "I Don't Know How To Love Him" from "Jesus Christ Superstar" sounds a whole lot like one of Mendelssohn's String Quartets, but what do I know?). The "One Excellent Song" in the midst of lots of repetitive recitative is practically the trademark of an Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical. But as I warned at the beginning of this writing, that is my opinion. Suffice it to say that Composers have unique styles all their own that makes their work recognizable almost instantly.

King David's fingerprints are all over this Psalm. First of all, it carries the subtitle "For The Director of Music", which was very common in the earlier songbook dedicated to David's work. David wrote these Psalms not only for his own private devotional life, but to be used in the Temple and shared. Next, of course, there is the signature in the subtitle,"Of David". Then, there is the outpouring of David's Lament against his most despised kind of enemy; the slanderers, liars, fake-news mongers, plotters, conspirators, and gossips.

He prays that God will redress his grievances against these evildoers, and bring about their own plots upon their heads. This is a recurring theme among the Psalms of David, and he expresses perfect trust and faith that God will bring Justice and retribution onto these "Vipers".

My Personal Prayer, from Day One of this Thread's Ten Year Journey, has been:

"Let all that has been concealed,
Be Revealed."

Sometimes that can be very painful, but it's happening as we speak.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)
