Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalms

Psalm 136

1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

4 to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
5 who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
6 who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
7 who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
8 the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
9 the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
His love endures forever.
11 and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.
12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever.

13 to him who divided the Red Sea[a] asunder
His love endures forever.
14 and brought Israel through the midst of it,
His love endures forever.
15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;
His love endures forever.

16 to him who led his people through the wilderness;
His love endures forever.

17 to him who struck down great kings,
His love endures forever.
18 and killed mighty kings—
His love endures forever.
19 Sihon king of the Amorites
His love endures forever.
20 and Og king of Bashan—
His love endures forever.
21 and gave their land as an inheritance,
His love endures forever.
22 an inheritance to his servant Israel.
His love endures forever.

23 He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.
24 and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever.
25 He gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.

26 Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven,
Hallowed Be Thy Name!

How Wonderful You Are, Dear Father!
How Glorious and Mighty!
Yet Your Love Endures Forever,
From Everlasting to Everlasting.
How delightful it is To Praise and Worship You,
For You Alone Are Worthy of Our Adoration!

The Earth is Yours,
And The Fullness Thereof,
The Universe in All Its Vast Expanse,
And Even the Tiny Things We Can't see With Our Eyes.
The Molecules and The Atoms,
Even The Quarks and Neutrinos are ALL Your Invention!
You Are the Strong Force that Holds it All Together,
And You Are The Great Designer,
The Exquisite Artist,
The All in All,
The Eternal Ancient of Days,
And Your Mercies Endure Forever!

Thank You For Bringing Us to This Day,
For Our Daily Bread,
For Our Freedoms and Liberties,
And For Your Holy Word, Which We Cherish!

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This Psalm has many layers, even though, on the surface it looks like a repetitive litany. As you will see, the repetition is important, as it is a means of anchoring the Psalm and involving the Congregation.

In my book (now out of print) "Nuthin' But The Blues", I cite this Psalm as the perfect example of "Call and Response", which is the foundation of the uniquely African-American Art Form known as "The BLUES". The Blues are the wellspring of nearly all of our modern music, from Ragtime to Jazz, to R & B, Soul, Gospel, Rock'n'Roll, and Rock. "Call and Response" goes back even beyond the Blues, as it is exemplified in this very Psalm. The "Responsorial Psalms" in the Liturgies of Christian Churches of all denominations reflect this. Sometimes they are called by the Greek word "Antiphons", which means "opposite sounds". In some church architecture, especially in the UK, the choirs are actually seated opposite each other.

But this Psalm is more than just a Liturgy. It is also a Song of Praise, telling of the Great Things God has done. So that makes it an Historical Psalm as well.

Structurally, it is set up as a "Readers' Digest" version of the Torah:

Verses 1-9 is a Creation Hymn and Praises God for the magnificence of His Creation. These verses sing of God's Creation.

Verses 10-15 summarizes the Exodus, The Passover, and the Crossing of the Red Sea. These verses sing of God's Redemption.

Verse 16 could very well represent The Book of Numbers in the Torah, as it speaks of God's Provision.

Verses 17-22 covers the Book of Numbers and The Book of Deuteronmony, as the recall the battles upon entering the Promised Land. Thise verses speak of God's Protection.

Verses 23-25 summarizes the previous verses, and then there is a Coda that matches the Intro giving Thanks to "The God Of Heaven". The Name "The God Of Heaven" is a Persian Name for the One True God, so that would indicate that this Psalm was post-exile. After 70 years in captivity, the People needed to be reminded of their History, and of God's Creation, Redemption, Provision, and Protection. That is all achieved in this Glorious Psalm!

This is why Children should be taught History, Civics, and Literature at all levels of school. People who do not know their History are easily conquered.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)

God Bless America!

The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."

“Behold, [in the future restored Jerusalem] I will lay upon it health and healing, and I will cure them and will reveal to them the abundance of peace (prosperity, security, stability) and truth. Amen And I will cleanse them from all the guilt and iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will forgive all their guilt and iniquities by which they have sinned and rebelled against Me. And [Jerusalem] shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth that hear of all the good I do for it, and they shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the peace, prosperity, security, and stability I provide for it.” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭33:6, 8-9‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
