Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalms

Psalm 132

A song of ascents.

1 Lord, remember David
    and all his self-denial.

2 He swore an oath to the Lord,
he made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 “I will not enter my house
    or go to my bed,
4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes
    or slumber to my eyelids,
5 till I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

6 We heard it in Ephrathah,
we came upon it in the fields of Jaar:[a]
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place,
let us worship at his footstool, saying,
8 ‘Arise, Lord, and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 May your priests be clothed with your righteousness;
may your faithful people sing for joy.’”

10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your anointed one.

11 The Lord swore an oath to David,
a sure oath he will not revoke:
“One of your own descendants
I will place on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and the statutes I teach them,
then their sons will sit
on your throne for ever and ever.”

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion,
he has desired it for his dwelling, saying,
14 “This is my resting place for ever and ever;
here I will sit enthroned, for I have desired it.
15 I will bless her with abundant provisions;
her poor I will satisfy with food.
16 I will clothe her priests with salvation,
and her faithful people will ever sing for joy.

17 “Here I will make a horn[b] grow for David
and set up a lamp for my anointed one.
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,
but his head will be adorned with a radiant crown.”

Footnotes:

1. Psalm 132:6 Or heard of it in Ephrathah, / we found it in the fields of Jearim. (See 1 Chron. 13:5,6) (And no quotation marks around verses 7-9)
2. Psalm 132:17 Horn here symbolizes strong one, that is, king.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

.

This Psalm is rather long for a "Song of Ascents" but it stays within the recurring theme of this "Book Within A Book".

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Hallowed and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
It Is You Who Made Us,
And Everything That Exists,
From the Giant Galaxies,
To The intricate DNA Molecule.
You Are The Great Designer,
And The Universe is Your Canvas!

Abba Father,
Your Servant David, the Sweet Psalmist of Israel,
A Man After Your Own Heart,
Wanted So MUCH to build a House For You!
"Why Should I live in a Palace," he said,
"While The King of The Universe lives in a TENT?"
Yet, because of David's sins,
You did not allow him to achieve this goal,
And had Solomon build Your Temple instead.
How Often do we ourselves set Great Goals
Of Wondrous Things We Intend to do for YOU,
When YOUR Will is To Dwell in The Sanctuary of Our Hearts,
And For us To Make OUR Bodies The Temple of Your Holy Spirit,
To Treat YOUR Creation With Dignity and Respect for Life,
Worshiping YOU, and not the THINGS that Your Hands Have Made.

Father, We Praise You Joyfully,
In Whatever Circumstances We Find Ourselves!
We Worship at Your Footstool,
We Sing Of Your Glory!
We Thank You For Your Holy Word,
Which You Have meticulously preserved for us,
By Your Holy Spirit.

Thank You, Father,
For Your Word,
For Your Will,
For Your Promise,
For Your Messiah.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Although this Psalm has been gathered in with The Songs of Ascents, it seems a little different from the others in the series. First of all, it is longer, meaning that, if one were really ascending steps while reciting these, one would have to stop on the 12th step and spend some time with this Psalm. (oddly enough, the "Twelfth Step" in the famous "Twelve Step Program" which has helped many people with addictions, is to reach out and practice the "Joy of Living". Probably a coincidence!) Anyway...back to this Psalm.

Its Language, Arrangement, Length, and Theme closely associates this Psalm with David. It may have been an older Psalm by David that got incorporated into this little songbook, or maybe a contemporary work done in David's style. Each Two-Verse petition is followed by two Stanzas of four lines each (In Hebrew, of course). There is a Couplet at the end that serves as a Coda or Tag. Within the Psalm there is a dialogue between God and David. First, David swears a promise to God, and then, God swears a promise to David.

The current worldwide pandemic has caused us to press the PAUSE BUTTON on everything. Entertainment, Sports, Parties, Eating Out, Shopping, Socializing, and even Church-Going. Perhaps it is a good time to stop on that Twelfth Step, Reflect upon the Promises of God, Renew our Commitment to Him, and Rejoice because we are alive. May the Lord Bless everyone reading this, and keep them from harm. Amen.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)

God Bless America!
