Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalms

Psalm 122

A song of ascents. Of David.

1 I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
2 Our feet are standing
    in your gates, Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem is built like a city
    that is closely compacted together.
4 That is where the tribes go up—
    the tribes of the Lord—
to praise the name of the Lord
according to the statute given to Israel.
5 There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
    and security within your citadels.”
8 For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
    I will seek your prosperity.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
Keeper of Israel, Who Never Slumbers Nor Sleeps,
How Wonderful To See Your Promises Fulfilled
So Many Centuries After Being Articulated in Your Holy Word!
For You Are The God Who Keeps Your Promises.
You Are Faithful,
Even When We Are Not.
It is a Good Thing,
To Ascend These Songs of Ascents,
These Psalms of Degrees,
These Ancient Hymns of Pilgrimage,
As We Approach You, Step by Step,
Entering Your Gates With Thanksgiving in Our Hearts,
And Into Your Courts With Praise.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I used to "butt heads" with a Conservative Rabbi when I was the Activities Director at a small Kosher Nursing Home over 40 years ago. While he demanded that Religious Services be conducted on both the evening of the Sabbath, and on Saturday Morning itself, he had his own duties to attend, and therefore could not be the one to officiate. I couldn't get a volunteer to do it, because anyone who was religious enough to know the prayers and sing them would be home celebrating Shabbat with their own families. I couldn't PAY someone to do it, because I did not have a budget.

And so, even though I had worked a 40 hour week already, I went into work Saturday Morning, woke up at least ten people and brought them into the chapel by pushing wheelchairs, and conducted the service. I was not acting as a minister, because the old men knew the service by heart, and I would just push the wheelchairs up to the podium one at a time (A Cohen first, then a Levi, and finally, an Israelite) and hold the pointer as each man read from the Torah. Then we would sing a hymn together and I would bring everybody back to their rooms.

Everybody seemed happy with this arrangement, until the Rabbi found out. Although I know now that what I was doing was very much a violation of his tradition, and quite insulting, I didn't realize it then, so of course my feelings were hurt! I stormed out to my car, and the Rabbi followed me, when suddenly the bumper sticker on my car caught his eye.

"That's YOUR car?" the Rabbi asked, incredulously. "I LOVE that bumper sticker! I see it every morning and it inspires me. I had NO IDEA that was YOUR car."

Shabbat Services continued as before with no further complaint, and the Rabbi and I became quite good friends after that.

What was the bumper sticker? I was in Hebrew, and it was from today's Psalm.

Psalm 122 has a two-verse Intro, followed by two stanzas of four lines each. The wordplay of the pivotal verse (the bumper sticker) is based upon the letter SHIN and is the main sound of Pray, Peace, and Jerusalem. It doesn't roll of the tongue as well in English, but in Hebrew it is exquisite.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” " (Hosea 6:3, NIV)

God Bless America!

My bumper sticker was, “You don’t like my driving? Then STAY OFF THE SIDEWALK.”

We pray in particular on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya and throughout the Mideast. The members of the oldest of our Christian Communities, some of which date from the days of the Apostles, suffer under cruel, merciless and unrelenting persecution. They are Orthodox and Catholic, Protestant and Evangelical, Coptic, Pentecostal, and Baptist. To the persecutors, we are all "Nazarenes."
