Psalm 120

A song of ascents.

1 I call on the Lord in my distress,
    and he answers me.
2 Save me, Lord,
    from lying lips
    and from deceitful tongues.

3 What will he do to you,
    and what more besides,
    you deceitful tongue?
4 He will punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,
    with burning coals of the broom bush.

5 Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
    that I live among the tents of Kedar!
6 Too long have I lived
    among those who hate peace.
7 I am for peace;
    but when I speak, they are for war.

The Temple of Solomon Had 15 Steps leading Up to the Sanctuary.

It Is Thought that The Priests Would Sing Each of The 15 "Songs of Ascents" one at a time, while ascending the steps.

These are also called the "Psalms of Degrees".

Out of the Depths of Despair I Cry To You, Dear Father,
For You See All, and Hear All!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,
For You Alone Are The One True God!
You Are Omniscient,
and You Always Know The Truth,
Because You ARE The Truth!
Deliver Your Children From The Lies and Slander
Perpetrated by the Media,
and by The enemy of Our Souls.
For What Shield have we against a Lying Tongue?
What Defense have we against an ugly rumor,
a false witness,
a bad report,
or a mean gossip,
a confidence betrayed?
These are darts and arrows that sting and burn more than any earthly physical weapons,
and often come from those we trust the most.
Dear Father, we Run To You, to Your Everlasting Arms,
Fleeing this vicious world of Lies, Calumny and Slander,
To The Comfort of Your Gracious and Perfect Light of Truth,
That Shines So Brightly
that All Lies are Shriveled Up in the Glare of Your Infinite Justice and Righteousness.
Like The Fires of the Broom Tree (Juniper),
which burn brighter, longer, and hotter than any other wood,
Obliterate with Fire the Lies of the enemy, we Pray.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

After lurching around in the Judean Desert for what seemed like HOURS, the bus began a steady ascent . Ari, the guide, announced jubilantly. "Now you know why we say we are going UP to Jerusalem!"

Jerusalem is set high upon a hill, at the convergence of three ridges and valleys, that, from an aerial view, looks like the letter "SHIN". I am not kidding. I will see if I can find a picture and post it in the thread if I can.

The "Songs of Ascents" were most probably Liturgical and post-exile, and sung one at a time while ascending the 15 steps of the Temple of Solomon.

Without taking away that meaning, it could also represent a pilgrimage, going "UP" to Jerusalem.

In addition, some scholars Speculate that The 15 Songs of Ascents depict the 15 extra Years of Life that were Granted to King Hezekiah when he Prayed to the LORD.

It is A New Section Of Psalms, With a New Direction, after the Incredible Adventure of Psalm 119.
