Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

81 My soul faints with longing for your salvation,
    but I have put my hope in your word.

    I say, “When will you comfort me?”

83 Though I am like a wineskin in the smoke,
    I do not forget your decrees.

84 How long must your servant wait?
    When will you punish my persecutors?

85 The arrogant dig pits to trap me,
    contrary to your law.

86 All your commands are trustworthy;
    help me, for I am being persecuted without cause.

87 They almost wiped me from the earth,

King of Kings, and Lord of Lords,
Keep Me In Your Tender Care.
Cover Me With The Sheltering
Canopy of Your Wings.
Conceal Me From Those Who Hate Me Without Cause.
Carry Me, With Your Word, Away from This World Of Sorrow. What

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

As I was walking my dog this morning, I greeting my new neighbor, who was putting out his trash barrel for collection. Since he is new to the community, I stopped to talk and make him feel welcome. At first, we talked about the wonderful mild winter we've been having, and he joked that he's been spraying CO2 around to hasten "Global Warming". HA HA...we had a good laugh over that and the conversation veered into how impossible it is for mere humans to affect global climate. I quoted a line from a Pink Floyd song to make my point, and suddenly the conversation went into the direction of music.

Joe, a few years older than I am, is a drummer. We began comparing notes, and it turns out that Joe was the drummer for many of the famous bands that I heard in the 60's at a venue called "The Boston Tea Party". These bands became quite famous, and some of the stars are still making music. In fact, I saw one of them last summer at our big outdoor venue that used to be called "Great Woods". We talked and talked, and I know he was telling the truth because I remembered the actual events themselves. It was very cool. Meanwhile, Penny stood patiently, not having completed her walk as of yet, but letting Mama socialize.

After about twenty minutes of reminiscing about the music scene of the 60's, Penny and I walked on, and I was a little stunned. Here was a man who had lived MY dream for over a half century, and yet, here we were, both alone, both living in a trailer, and leaning on a trash barrel talking about old times. It was a little disconcerting to say the least. But then, I realized that I have a treasure that can't be measured in earthly terms. I am washed in the Blood of the Lamb and have His Holy Spirit within me. A Treasure in an Earthen Vessel, to be sure!

While "Yod" was a Clenched Hand of Power and Might, "Kaf" is an Open Hand of Largess, Reception, Giving and Receiving. It is The Letter of Deliverance and of being Fed.

In Fact, the word "kaf" means "spoon" in Hebrew".

An Interesting line in the Psalm is this one:

For I have become like a wineskin in smoke..."

Smoke will dry out a wineskin and crack it. The Wine INSIDE will be ruined and lost.

New Wine is a Symbol Of His Spirit Within Us.

I was aware of the Christian Teaching of not putting "New Wine into Old Wineskins", but I had not realized that the Psalmist had sung of the Concept Centuries Earlier!

LORD Help us Remember that "Religion" is not just putting a "Patch" on a Dried Up Old Wineskin, but Something Alive, And Fresh, and New Every Morning, Like Precious Manna that You Offer us From Your Open Hand.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
