Sex only belongs in heterosexual marriage, a new statement from the Church of England's House of Bishops has declared.
In a document responding to the introduction of mixed-sex civil partnerships, the Bishops say: "For Christians, marriage – that is the lifelong union between a man and a woman, contracted with the making of vows – remains the proper context for sexual activity.
But they also add: "In its approach to civil partnerships the Church seeks to uphold that standard, to affirm the value of committed, sexually abstinent friendships and to minister sensitively and pastorally to those Christians who conscientiously decide to order their lives differently."
The statement affirms: "Sexual relationships outside heterosexual marriage are regarded as falling short of God's purposes for human beings. The introduction of same sex marriage... has not changed the church's teaching on marriage or same sex relationships."
The new declaration acknowledges that a working group called 'Living in Love and Faith' is looking at contemporary issues of sex and morality with a view to informing the church's discussions, but reiterates: "In the context... of the introduction of opposite-sex as well as same-sex civil partnerships, the teaching of the church on marriage remains unchanged."
The document is entitled 'Civil Partnerships – for same sex and opposite sex and opposite sex couples. A pastoral statement from the House of Bishops of the Church of England'.
In relation to Civil Partnerships, the Bishops say: "There is likely to be a range of circumstances in which people of the same sex or opposite sex choose to register a partnership, including some where there is no intention for the relationship to be expressed through sexual activity."

When push comes to shove the Church of England still reads its Bible and bases its doctrine on that. They just seem to do everything they can to avoid reading the Bible nowadays and focus on other things.

Many unmarried couples, especially the college aged, are having sex. They are all falling short.

Is that anything like being “sort of” pregnant? They know that same sex unions are NOT just friendships, and that they, of course, include sex. They’re trying to straddle a barbed wire fence. “I would that he were either hot or cold. But since you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth!”

I’m stunned and delighted that the Church of England took this stand. They could face arrest in fascist Britain for their hate filled statements.

The catch is that one of the gay guys has to look like a female and one of the lesbians has to look like a guy and get a butch haircut. I maybe wrong but isn't the Church of England pretty liberal, and can't be trusted. One day they are for something the next day they are not.

The upcoming Lambeth conference, conservative African and Southern Cone members were threatening not attending over this issue. It’s an attempt to avoid a schism, but I am not sure it will work as the CoE hopes.
The members threatening nonattendance are not stupid and can see that official policy is often disregarded in practice. They are calling for Biblical standards, the Faith once delivered, to be upheld, and can see this for what it is, just lip service to an issue they think is a fundamental. Will they allow this to paper over the cracks? A few may, but I believe patience has worn thin and the majority will stand firm.
The Lambeth gathering is a meeting of all the leaders of national churches in the worldwide Anglican Communion. It occurs every 10 years.
Don’t look at what a church sect pronounces. Look at what they allow within its ranks with impunity to know its true doctrine. Ex: United Methodists.
Not at all. They’ll “straighten” up these bishops with non-stop harassment in no time.
