Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 94

Psalm 94

1 The Lord is a God who avenges.
    O God who avenges, shine forth.
2 Rise up, Judge of the earth;
    pay back to the proud what they deserve.
3 How long, Lord, will the wicked,
    how long will the wicked be jubilant?

4 They pour out arrogant words;
    all the evildoers are full of boasting.
5 They crush your people, Lord;
    they oppress your inheritance.
6 They slay the widow and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.
7 They say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob takes no notice.”

8 Take notice, you senseless ones among the people;
    you fools, when will you become wise?
9 Does he who fashioned the ear not hear?
    Does he who formed the eye not see?
10 Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
    Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
11 The Lord knows all human plans;
    he knows that they are futile.

12 Blessed is the one you discipline, Lord,
    the one you teach from your law;
13 you grant them relief from days of trouble,
    till a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not reject his people;
    he will never forsake his inheritance.
15 Judgment will again be founded on righteousness,
    and all the upright in heart will follow it.

16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked?
    Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?
17 Unless the Lord had given me help,
    I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
    your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
19 When anxiety was great within me,
    your consolation brought me joy.

20 Can a corrupt throne be allied with you—
    a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?
21 The wicked band together against the righteous
    and condemn the innocent to death.
22 But the Lord has become my fortress,
    and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.
23 He will repay them for their sins
    and destroy them for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will destroy them.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

.

When anxiety was great within me,.
  your consolation brought me joy.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are Holy;
You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham!

We Come Into Your Presence With Singing,
And Into Your Courts With Praise.
For You Are The Judge Of All The Earth,
And You Are Eternally Righteous and Just!

Father, The Wicked say that You do not see,
But You are "El Roi", The God Who Sees!
They say that You Have Forgotten Your people and Your heritage,
But Your Word tells us that You are faithful and True!
Your Word tells Us That You Have Engraved Zion
On The Very Palms of Your Hands!

Arise, Oh LORD,
Your Enemies Be Scattered!
Let The Whole Earth be Full of The Knowledge of The LORD,
As The Waters Cover The Sea!
For It Is Not By Might,
Not By Power,
But By Your Spirit, Abba, That We Shall Overcome!

Abba, Thank You for the Assurance
That You will NEVER Cast Off Your People.
You Have Said It.
We Believe You.
That's All There Is To It.
Amen and Amen.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

This Psalm is unique in this particular collection (Psalms 92-100), in that is is the voice of "We The People" rather than that of a King or Priest. It is related to Psalm 92 thematically, as it appeals to God as Judge to address oppression of the weak by those in power. Since the King himself made this same appeal in Psalm 92, it is safe to argue that the People are not being oppressed by the king himself, but by others entrenched in authority. We used to call these people the "Powers That Be" or "The Bureaucracy", but more modern terms are "The Deep State" or, simply, "THE SWAMP".

The song is arranged with a Three Verse Intro, followed by five stanzas of four lines each.

Here is a brief outline of the song:

Verses 1-3 Intro: An Invocation and a Call to Worship. The intro contains the now familiar Psalmist Question "How Long?"

Verses 4-7 An indictment of the wicked. This stanza lists the offenses of the Oppressors against the powerless.

Verses 8-11 This Stanza addresses the Oppressors directly. It is basically saying: "Who do you think you ARE, anyway?!?"

Verses 12-15 is a statement of Trust and confidence in God's Judgement. Sometimes we don't feel very "blessed" especially when God is teaching us a lesson, but when that happens, it means He CARES about us.

The next two Stanzas (Verses 16-19 and 20-23) are the actual PLEA. It is interspersed with absolute Faith and Confidence in God as the Deliverer. God will not abandon His People. This Psalm is echoed by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans, Chapter 11:1-2. God is my Fortress, my Rock, my Consolation, and my Savior.

He is also my Judge, Jury, and Defense Team.

I am in Good Hands.
