Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
(Music in The Bible)
Psalm 84
Psalm 84[a]
For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the living God.
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young
a place near your altar,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.[c]
5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
they make it a place of springs;
the autumn rains also cover it with pools.[d]
7 They go from strength to strength,
till each appears before God in Zion.
8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;
listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield,[e] O God;
look with favor on your anointed one.
10 Better is one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.
12 Lord Almighty,
blessed is the one who trusts in you.

And just think...if I hadn’t “experienced” this book exactly when I did, just in time for Today’s Magnificent Psalm, I would not have had that “experience” to write about, or for us to read the hysterically funny one-star reviews, or even have this fun conversation. So, it’s all good, and in God’s perfect timing.
And it only cost me a dollar. :-)

True... although it’s too bad you didn’t toss it in the recycle bin. It would’ve made perfectly fine toilet paper or newspaper to line the birdcage with.

It will be the ninth time reading Moby Dick since the Fourth Grade, but my recent visit to the New Bedford Whaling Museum has inspired me! And, since i read very fast, I’ll be ready for something new in about a week.

When I was a little kid, my parents fought incessantly and their was tremendous fear from a home doused with alcoholism. I fell into a fearful depression very young, and I remember one night, longing for God, and his peace. It was in the middle of the night, I walked to the church I went to which was over a mile away, and laid on the steps, and fell asleep for a while. Then I went home. God is our refuge and our strength, and indeed this psalm touches my heart in so many personal ways. Better is one day in his courts than a thousand elsewhere’s. Thank you. God Bless. Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem.

I bought that book some years ago, but never read it. Now I’ll know what to do with it.

I am so glad my “review” was helpful! :-)
Which option did you choose?
1. Read it and write a scathing one-star review?
2. Recycle it?
3. Shred it and use it to line the hamster cage?
4. Throw it across the room, risking personal injury or property damage?
:-)
