After Winning Life Support Legal Battle, Young British Girl Now Out of Intensive Care

Tafida Raqeeb has been in a coma since Feb. 9, 2019, after she suffered an arteriovenous malformation which resulted in a burst blood vessel in her brain.

VATICAN CITY — A five-year-old British girl, whose parents won a legal battle to take her to Italy for medical treatment, has been moved out of intensive care, and into a rehabilitative unit for children with incurable illnesses. Her parents say they hope to have more good news about their daughter’s condition in the months to come.

Tafida Raqeeb was transferred to the Galini Children’s Hospital in Genoa from the Royal London Hospital, where she had been since February 2019. The move came after a high-profile court battle in the UK, pitting Raqeeb’s parents against British physicians caring for their daughter.

Raqeeb has been in a coma since Feb. 9, 2019, after she suffered an arteriovenous malformation which resulted in a burst blood vessel in her brain.

In September 2019, Doctors at Royal London Hospital, where Raqeeb was comatose and on life support had asked a court’s permission to end Raqeeb’s life-sustaining treatment, arguing that continuing her life was not in the girl’s best interest.

The court instead allowed Raqeeb to travel abroad for medical treatment. Her parents, Muhhamed Raqeeb and Shalina Begum, had previously been barred from taking her abroad for treatment.

Doctors at Gaslini Hospital in Genoa, where Raqeeb arrived Oct. 15, said that Raqeeb was moved out of intensive care and into the residential pediatric hospice unit Dec. 24.

The chief physician of Gaslini’s pediatric intensive care unit said in a press conference Jan. 8 that Raqeeb has been stabilized and is now able to be off the ventilator for a half hour or hour at a time, according to Sky TG24.

Doctors have carried out other procedures to help stabilize......

I pray for this child. Prayer is important in the care of children.

They should sue and destroy the hospital that wanted to kill their daughter. Destroy the doctors’ reputation! It’s obvious that the doctors don’t know their job. By destroying the hospital they will save other children’s lives.

Doesn’t say who is PAYING for these treatments. If it’s the parents I wish them well. If it’s the taxpayers, then pull the plug

Remember the British couple who wanted the same thing for their ailing boy to be flown to Italy for treatment? The government ghouls denied the parents their rights and their baby was ‘legally’ terminated. So now did the courts allow the baby with the Arabic/ muslim name the freedom to be treated in Italy but denied their own British born couple? Leftist hypocrisy and unequal justice.

What you are saying doesn’t seem to be very pro-life... I agree that health care shouldn’t be financed by taxpayers, but if such a health care system exists, it should protect a patient’s life as much as possible. Human life unlike material things is something you can’t get back once you lose it.

Change how health care is financed, but do not make it anti-life.

The British National Health Service is notorious for killing their patients. There have been many cases when they refused to allow the patient to go to another hospital abroad even though the parents had the money. They simply wanted their patient to be dead. We must fight this anti-life mentality!

I’m pro life, but I’m anti-theft. Why should the taxpayer be forced to pay for someone else’s misfortune? If I have a medical problem should you be forced to pay for it?

Health care is NOT a right; it is a commodity. It is no different than a car, a vacation, a flat screen TV etc. If I want one of the above and cant pay should someone else be forced to pay?

Yah, I cought that too.

It easily could be the case.

Just like police, judges, and institutions across America today are much more likely to fear, support, go along with, and rule in favor of certain PC demographics...

If you think that our institutions are so bad you should try living somewhere else, like ANYWHERE in Asia, Africa or anywhere south of our border. The US, Europe and Australia are the only decent places to live...unless you have LOTS of money. Then it doesn't matter where you live because you can always be insulated against the a**holes of the world. OR, you can always GET OUT.

It has nothing to do with religion. South of our border all are Christian.

Somehow it all has to do with wealth and education.
Go figure.

I said that health care should NOT be paid by the taxpayers, but as long as the tax-paid health care exists, it shouldn’t be anti-life (i.e. kill the sick / disabled). Such health care is no health care at all.

They wouldn’t turn down muslims.

Only natural British citizens.

Thank you GOD ALMIGHTY, for protecting this child. I pray not only for her, but for her parents as well. Heal her as only YOU CAN. In JESUS’ name I pray, amen.

“”They wouldn’t turn down muslims. Only natural British citizens.””

And my post #4 of simply “SURE!” was met with a “?” at #5..

That’s exactly what I meant - anyone should have been able to see that wasn’t the name of a person BORN in the UK and yet was given special treatment! We’re both guessing but I doubt that our guess is inaccurate!

I didn’t read the whole article, but the U.K.has been welcoming Muslims into their country for decades. The girl could very well be a 4th or 5th generationer.

True but our thinking has been colored by the tens of thousands who went there and to European countries and being welcomed by those governments at the expense of those born there - with the exception of Hungary and Poland maybe? We were buried in those stories there for awhile but lately, not so much. We still get the horrible stories of crimes committed by those who were welcomed by the government and by the equailavent of our liberals. I would guess if the story in this thread was of a recent family ACCEPTED into the UK, it’s not a very popular one among those born in the UK. As sure as I am if it happened here - for all the good it would do us to complain!
