Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Music in The Bible)

Psalm 79

Psalm 79

A psalm of Asaph.

1 O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance;
    they have defiled your holy temple,
    they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.
2 They have left the dead bodies of your servants
    as food for the birds of the sky,
    the flesh of your own people for the animals of the wild.
3 They have poured out blood like water
    all around Jerusalem,
    and there is no one to bury the dead.
4 We are objects of contempt to our neighbors,
    of scorn and derision to those around us.

5 How long, Lord? Will you be angry forever?
    How long will your jealousy burn like fire?
6 Pour out your wrath on the nations
    that do not acknowledge you,
on the kingdoms
    that do not call on your name;
7 for they have devoured Jacob
    and devastated his homeland.

8 Do not hold against us the sins of past generations;
    may your mercy come quickly to meet us,
    for we are in desperate need.
9 Help us, God our Savior,
    for the glory of your name;
deliver us and forgive our sins
    for your name’s sake.
10 Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”

Before our eyes, make known among the nations
    that you avenge the outpoured blood of your servants.
11 May the groans of the prisoners come before you;
    with your strong arm preserve those condemned to die.
12 Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times
    the contempt they have hurled at you, Lord.
13 Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture,
    will praise you forever;
from generation to generation
    we will proclaim your praise.

This Psalm is an example of a "Lament".

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty Father,
Blessed Be Your Holy Name Forever!
We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise
Into the House of The LORD,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham!

If the people will not sing Your Praises,
the very rocks of the earth would break forth in song to Praise You,
Oh Father, Creator, LORD of All!
Abba, Father!
You, Oh LORD are Omniscient,
And Endlessly Creative,
And take Care of EVERY DETAIL of our lives!
Oh WE of little faith!
How can we doubt You,
Even for a second?

As we contemplate the words of Your Psalmist Asaph,
Who laments the Destruction of Your Holy Sanctuary,
We feel these same words rising in our throats.
How Long, Oh LORD?
Will You allow The enemy of Our Souls mock Your Name forever?

For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In the last 50 years or so, there has been a social and linguistic development in our culture known as "the non-apology-apology." This can go from a clumsily worded "I'm sorry if anyone was offended" to an elaborate, convoluted construct that actually transfers guilt onto the offended party. Like this:

"I'm sorry that my totally innocent and honest remark was deliberately misconstrued by some over-sensitive, self-absorbed, judgemental, societal misfit who is offended by his own shadow"

(Okay...that's a little extreme, but I think you catch my drift.)

Politicians, Lawyers, and Academics seem to be particularly skilled at using the non-apology-apology, perhaps because they need to use it so frequently It has become a way to say really insulting things and get away with it.

The non-apology-apology does not exist in Psalms. In the Laments and Penitential Psalms, there is full acknowledgement of personal and national sins and the "apology" is a Prayer for Forgiveness and Mercy. Psalm 79 states the strange counter-intuitive fact that God uses nations more wicked than Israel as a conduit for His punishment. The Psalmist also acknowledges that even though God is using the nations, He is not just "pulling strings". The nations are acting out of their own wickedness and disdain for The One True God when they attack God's People. It is a paradox, but then, most of History is.

This Psalm bears a resemblence in tone to Daniel's Prayer in Daniel 9: 4-19. It is a very sincere Psalm of Repentance and a Plea for Forgiveness for the sake of YOUR Name. There is not a trace of non-apology-apology there at all. The Forgiveness is for God's Sake not even for the offender. The action of forgiveness is for YOUR People, YOUR inheritance, YOUR saints, and "the sheep of YOUR Pasture". It is not "me-centered" but "God-centered".

And that's a BIG difference.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)
