Minister for Health Simon Harris said that comments made by a Catholic parish group about IVF are ‘extremely hurtful’.
Tullamore’s Catholic Parish Facebook group was used to warn its members that IVF was ‘incompatible’ with what it means to be a Catholic.
The post also made comments about the affects of the treatment on the female reproductive system in the process.
It read: ‘The process of IVF damages embryonic stem cells and thus life and is therefore completely, clearly and totally incompatible with our Catholic faith.
‘For all believers in God, all life is sacred at all times.’
According to RTE, Mr Harris responded: ‘The comments were, I am sure unintentionally, extremely hurtful to many families who are struggling with fertility issues.
‘I thought and certainly hoped we had moved to a point as a country that this sort of inappropriate interference in decisions that individuals and couples make about their own lives would be left to them.’
Although the Facebook page for the group has since been deleted entirely, its organisers offered an apology for the comments.

Dear God.
I just can’t stand this.
Conservative: “I find that to be hurtful.”
The ruling elite: “That’s just too bad.”
Liberal: “I find that to be hurtful.”
The ruling elite: “Oh, sorry. We will make sure it never happens again.”
Will this ever change?
Protestant Christians all don’t feel like that.
True. But many “Catholics” do.
If you believe that life begins at conception, then IVF necessarily involves the destruction of some embryos which are "LIFE".
Many of us "want" what God has not given us. There are many children in need of adoption.
Pray and accept.
Too many people in this world are completely spineless. They will state a stone cold fact and then, at the slightest of criticism immediately back away and apologize for having ever uttered the truth.
Then later, will whine about how they were taken out of context or, state that that’s not what I meant, or some such cowardly drivel.
We wonder why our western Judeo/Christian Culture is under constant attack? It’s because we make it so damned easy for the enemies of our culture to do so.
So very many of us are_ussies! Same goes for our RINO politicians.
Which is exactly why we in the USA voted for President Donald J. Trump. Because he fights!!!
Most times when such terms as ‘extremely hurtful!’ are used as an objection, it’s because the comments are true and everyone knows it.
“All life is sacred at all times”. Only a dishonest democrat (i.e., normal for a leftist) could pretend that such a statement is hateful.
Yes, just attacking free speech - nothing less. When the law doesn’t prohibit the speech (yet), try shaming the speaker.
“Progressives” have been very upfront that they regard motherhood as slavery; they are past arguing the concept of “life” because they lose that argument by protecting early life in other species, and bemoan gender-selective abortions. Now they simply maintain the mother’s livelihood (in whatever manner she may choose) is more important than a child’s life itself.
Decades ago in a state college the lib professors had already conceded that a baby in the womb was life; they were already moving on their Plan B arguments.
What do these initials mean?
