It would not be immediately clear to Mary that she was having THE Messiah that had been foretold.
The song basically asks if she knew her child was Divine and would perform miracles.
A reasonable question at the moment of His birth.

She knew her baby was not some ordinary baby. She also knew she would suffer as His Mother. Perhaps not specifics, but she knew.
