I saw the movie and it seemed like a pretty honest version of Elton John's life, from what I know of it anyway. But one thing bothered me: In an early scene, Reg Dwight (the future Elton John) is playing in a band called: 'Blues incorporated.'

That was a real band at the time, led by Long John Baldry, a well known brit blues singer, who was known to be gay.

Later in the movie there is a scene where Reg Dwight picks a new name and the implication is that he got 'John' from John Lennon. Truth is he got the name from Long John Baldry.

So why the omission? LJB passed away some years ago, so no harm would have been done. Maybe there was bad blood between the two of them?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yeah. The writer didn’t bother to get his facts straight. Movies seldom do.
