Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
(Music in The Bible)
Psalm 45
Psalm 45[a]
For the director of music. To the tune of Lilies. Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil.[b] A wedding song.
1 My heart is stirred by a noble theme
as I recite my verses for the king;
my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
2 You are the most excellent of men
and your lips have been anointed with grace,
since God has blessed you forever.
3 Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one;
clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.
4 In your majesty ride forth victoriously
in the cause of truth, humility and justice;
let your right hand achieve awesome deeds.
5 Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the kings enemies;
let the nations fall beneath your feet.
6 Your throne, O God,[c] will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.
8 All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;
from palaces adorned with ivory
the music of the strings makes you glad.
9 Daughters of kings are among your honored women;
at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir.
10 Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention:
Forget your people and your fathers house.
11 Let the king be enthralled by your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.
12 The city of Tyre will come with a gift,[d]
people of wealth will seek your favor.
13 All glorious is the princess within her chamber;
her gown is interwoven with gold.
14 In embroidered garments she is led to the king;
her virgin companions follow her
those brought to be with her.
15 Led in with joy and gladness,
they enter the palace of the king.
16 Your sons will take the place of your fathers;
you will make them princes throughout the land.
17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations;
therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
This is a Wedding Song, included right in the midst of Worship, Praise, Liturgy, and Prayer. Perhaps , by including this in Psalms, God is giving us His views on Marriage?

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Having been a Church Musician for almost 40 years, I have seen Wedding Songs come and go. Sometimes the popularity of a particular song causes it to be requested over and over again, so that soon it becomes tiresome for the musicians who have to play it. Such was the case of "Pachelbel's Canon in D" as a Processional, and Paul Stookey's "There is Love" for the "Special Music". Some people complained that neither of these songs were what is called "Sacred Music", but had no problem with the "Bridal Chorus" by Wagner, even though it was from a pagan opera written by an antisemite...but I digress. Anyway, suffice to say the Paul Stookey song was starting to get on my nerves a little bit.
My little sister was getting married and she asked me to do the music. She was in the Church Orchestra with me and we were also in the church's Contemporary Christian Band together. As this was 33 years ago, we were always being asked to do those two tiresome songs whenever we did Weddings. "Whatever you do," she admonished, "Don't Play Pachelbel or the Stookey song! PUH-Leeeeze." Well the solution was that I wrote my own song for her, and it went very nicely.
Some years later, I was asked to play the organ at a friend's wedding. She wanted Pachelbel's Canon as the Processional, (Of Course!), and then a mutual friend named Paul was going to bring his guitar and do "There is Love". OK. Well at least I didn't have to do it. The Bride looked lovely, and paced her entry to Pachelbel perfectly. It really DID make a nice Processional. As the ceremony progressed, I noticed that Paul hadn't shown up. It was getting closer and closer to the moment when he was supposed to sing, and he wasn't there! I prepared to stand in the gap, but I couldn't remember the song! It was as if it had been erased from my brain! And so, when the moment came, I played the song I wrote for my sister, and it worked out fine. I will never understand how that happened because I had played the Stookey song so many times that I thought I never would be able to forget it. The Lord works in mysterious ways...
Let's look at Today's Psalm. It is a Wedding Song, for a King and his Bride. It is written to be sung by The Sons of Korah Levitical Choir, and begins with an Introduction. Then it addresses the Groom and the Bride in order.
Verses 2-9 address the Groom. It is further subdivided thus:
Verses 3-5 is an EXHORTATION to the Groom
Verses 6-9 Sing of the GLORY of the Groom.
Then the Bride is addressed in the same manner:
Verses 10-11 are an EXHORTATION to the Bride
Verses 12-15 Sing of the GLORY of the Bride.
Finally, Verses 16-17 sing of Eternity, and Glory from Generation to Generation forever and ever.
The Christian Faith has always used Marriage as a Metaphor for the Relationship of Christ and His Church. However, this imagery is also in the Old Testament. The Prophets Hosea, Isaiah and, here, David, are very explicit in comparing God's relationship with His People as a Marriage. It is because of this that believers should defend God's Definition of Marriage whatever the cost. And in today's society, it could be a BIG price tag.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

I think you were blessed to have been struck with amnesia where the Stookey song was concerned. If only we could forget other such songs... :-P
Well, at least they didn’t ask you to sing that bank commercial song, “For All We Know.” ;-D

“Bank Commercial Song...”
LOL :-)
Once I had to do a Stevie Wonder Song for a Gypsy Funeral, but that’s a whole other story.
