I read in either the Italian or Spanish press that Scalfari was annoyed by people saying that he was falsifying or mis-remembering the words of Bergoglio. At that point, he published the actual words, and he said that, contrary to what many defenders of Bergoglio have been saying, he actually does record the interviews, which is how he is able to come out with the exact quote. He doesn’t take notes or write out the interview, but he does have the exact words.

And even if he did make it up, wouldn’t it be reasonable for Bergoglio, in something this momentous, to come out and deny these words and make a profession of faith to reassure people?

Bergoglio's passive-aggressive silences and insolent refusals to clarify anything, are certainly indicators that he finds confusion more to his purposes than clarity.

And as St. Paul warns, "God is not the Author of Confusion."
