If an Indian friend invited me to a celebration I would go but I wouldn’t celebrate it as a religious occasion.
I won’t condemn it that’s for sure because it’s a FAR FAR CRY from Islam.
Heart’s in the right place.
But Christ isn’t in the Right Place in the celebration.
Still, I think it would be an enjoyable occasion.
I’ve had Jewish and Protestant gals over to Good Friday fish dinner in my lifetime.
I’ve been to Jewish Friends’ holiday occasions.
There’s a time to try to convert people and there’s a time to just enjoy their special days with them.
Islam and some others being the MAJOR exceptions.
“Islam and some others being the MAJOR exceptions”
Having lived in Turkey I will disagree.
As long as I can enjoy a selebration with others without being part of the celebration I will share what is important to them.
Absolutely agree, Indian food is delish...really hard finding a good Indian restaurant in our town.
My dad was in the restaurant business, and we traveled a lot on vacations. I was NEVER allowed to say no to any foreign or domestic food without tasting it. If I didn’t like it then, OK. We went to Omar Khayams’s in San Francisco, run by Armenian George Mardikian, a gracious host and charming man who took time to explain his middle-eastern food to 11-year-old me. He was a Republican too...
I have no problem going to friends’ homes and enjoying the food and festivities. My friend was Ravi Shankar’s business manager, and I was invited to join him at a Indian restaurant in LA. Yum food, terrific experience. My daughter’s best friend in grade school was Jewish, and we were invited several times to their holiday meals. Lovely people, good food, close family. No problem whatsoever.
What I don’t eat is bacon, hot dogs, fast food of any kind. Not for religious reasons but because it’s yucky. IMHO
