Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Around the corner from my house is a factory that makes cymbals. The family that owns the factory has been making cymbals for over 400 YEARS, and came to America fleeing persecution in the early 20th Century. Their Cymbals are considered by many to be the best in the world.

The drummer in my church in Florida had quite a few cymbals in his kit. When I arranged the songs for the band, I often directed him to highlight certain phrases with their bright, sizzling sound.

This account in 1 Chronicles gives us a little background about the previous time David tried to move the Ark, and the anger of the Lord broke out against him. The specific instructions were that only the Levites could carry the Ark, and it had to be borne on their shoulders. The last time the Ark was moved, it had been placed upon an ox cart, like a load of goods being carried to the market. Disobedience brought disaster. However, the Torah did not specify what kind of music would accompany this procession, and so, David, being a musician, went all out. Of course there were trumpets, but there were also Lyres, Harps, and Cymbals. Later on, in the Psalms, we shall see that several kinds of cymbals were in use, including "high-sounding cymbals" which were very small, and could be worn on the fingers like castanets. The affectionate name for these little cymbals is "Zils" named for the Master Cymbal Maker who sought refuge from persecution to make his cymbals in our own beautiful country.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance! (Psalm 33)

God Bless America!
