I'm looking to find a syllabus that I could use to do Sunday School via teleconference with my grandson(s).
File under: 21st Century Headlines.
I have 2 grandsons, the older one is almost 7, so I'd be starting with him. The little one is only 2, so maybe just get him to do an art project or something for now.
I'd be willing to spend some money to get a quality product
I googled this and there were SO MANY ads that came up! Of course that made me happy, but I feel a little overwhelmed.
So I figured I'd come ask for guidance from the smartest people I know!
In truth, I need all the help I can get.
Catholic - Faith and Life.
The didache for older kids
Read.
Level II: memorize
Level III, translate Vivaldi and Bach.
What a nice idea. Seeing as the age is 2 I would recommend no commercial product or program. There must be some significant (to you) lessons you would like to convey. If I had a grandchild I would pick topics like the prodigal son or the pearl of great price, talking about the Good Shepherd, and then look for resources or coloring books etc about that topic. Make it fit your grandchild and be about what you feel are the most important lessons to share. When our daughter was little I made her a cloth and cardboard cut out of the Good Shepherd passages. A green fabric circle for the pasture, cardoard gates, a black fabric piece for the hole, some sheep and a shepherd. She cherished it and loved telling the story to others and move the pieces around to tell the story. When they get older there are lots of material out there. Just my humble 2 cents.
PS, if you have a particular lesson try googling “teach materials” and then the name. I just did the Good Shepherd and there are nice resources out there.
sorry typo I meant “teaching materials”
Aren’t there Bible lessons used by home schoolers that would work for Sunday School?
Are you telling/showing them stories online, in other words, you are in N.Y. and they are in Alaska?
Momwithhope has good ideas.
Thanks MomwithHope, you sound very creative and crafty!
Thanks! I do need something more in a Presbyterian vein!
aspasia, thank you! you are already way over my head, but perhaps #1 grandson could keep up!
Try checking the books by Henrietta Mears (at Amazon). She had both adult and youth books.
How about music? That’s the Sunday School for all the secular world.
If reading is over your head, I'm afraid you're lost.
Yes, exactly, well we are closer than NY and Alaska, more like NY and VA, approximately. But yes, the plan is to do it over the interwebs. Anyway, it’ll be content, rather than just saying: how are you? good, how is school? fine.
You know how that goes!
But, I’m very (extremely) ignorant, so I need some sort of lesson plan or outline.
Coloring helps with dexterity.
Use what the apostles refer to as a “sound pattern of words.”
The Ten Commandments
The Apostles Creed
The Lord’s Prayer
Never should the Church be an innovator to deliver what caters to feelings. Christ delivers the benefits of His righteousness on our behalf with a Cross and the simple means of Word plus Water and Supper.
It is a Sunday School, so there are disciples who fall under discipline, which reverts back to a sound pattern of words. The patterns referenced above invite further exploration and pondering.
It is all good, because God is in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to you the word of reconciliation.
