If you go back a 120 years, virtually everyone in the southern part of the US....met via a local church situation. It seemed to work in that time period, without any issues.

That was before so many churches became covers for queers and when congregants could be expected to behave somewhat morally.

BlackElk (R.I.P.) told me that in the 50's/early 60's the hot ticket in New Haven, CT was the Catholic CCD events. Protestant boys would go just because of the nice Catholic girls.
