Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

Daniel 8

The Interpretation of the Vision

15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision and trying to understand it, there before me stood one who looked like a man. 16 And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai calling, “Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of the vision.”

17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate. “Son of man,”[b] he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”

18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.

19 He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath, because the vision concerns the appointed time of the end.[c] 20 The two-horned ram that you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia. 21 The shaggy goat is the king of Greece, and the large horn between its eyes is the first king. 22 The four horns that replaced the one that was broken off represent four kingdoms that will emerge from his nation but will not have the same power.

23 “In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise. 24 He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy those who are mighty, the holy people. 25 He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.

26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true, but seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”

27 I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding.

Footnotes:

1. Daniel 8:12 Or rebellion, the armies
2. Daniel 8:17 The Hebrew phrase ben adam means human being. The phrase son of man is retained as a form of address here because of its possible association with “Son of Man” in the New Testament.
3. Daniel 8:19 Or because the end will be at the appointed time

Everybody wants to be a "prophet", but, as Daniel testifies here, it is NOT easy!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Hallowed,
Magnificent,
and Sanctified
is Your Most Holy Name!
How Blessed and How True is Your Word,
and How Mighty!
How Glorious,
to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space
With Your Word and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Hallelujah and Amen.

We Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
And for the Jewish People,

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today's little story JUST HAPPENED Yesterday, in the midst of our study of the baffling latter part of the Book of Daniel.

As most of you know, three and a half years ago I bought a mobile home in a little trailer park in S.E. MA. As trailer parks go, it's not too bad, but we do have more than our share of "different" people. (I suppose the Bible-Reading-Biker-Widow-With-The-Pit-Bull would qualify as "different", but there you go). Anyway, every morning and evening I would walk Penny around the park for exercise. From the day I moved in, there was an abandoned trailer in the park. Even though it was a newer model than mine, it was rapidly deteriorating and was an eyesore. There was an odd thing though, embedded in the front window, high up above eye level. It was a stained-glass picture, replacing one of the window panes (about 16" x 20") and looked like an animal, like a deer or mountain goat. It intrigued me. Why would an abandoned trailer have a stained glass window?

So I asked around and found out that it had been made by a former resident of the trailer, and then used to replace a window pane, YEARS ago.

I really liked the look, and collect stained glass, so pretty soon the thing became a temptation.

Every day, Penny and I would walk past the trailer, which was rotting around the stained glass, and my mind started racing. "Soon, that trailer is going to crumble and the glass will be destroyed. Maybe I should just...take it.

But no. That would be stealing. And so, every day, twice a day, the stained glass would look at me and I would covet it. Then, of course, I would have to repent of coveting it.

Well, this Spring, an older couple bought TWO trailers. Their plan was to live in the smaller of the two and renovate the stained-glass house to their own desires, and then sell the smaller one. Cathy, the new owner, took me through the rotting shell of the larger one and told me how she was planning on putting a beautiful modern kitchen with lots of cabinets into the room facing the street...the one with the stained glass. I casually mentioned that I had been looking at that stained glass for three years. She laughed. "You can HAVE it! Ha Ha Ha."

I just figured she was joking around, as it would probably get smashed by the contractor who was busy pulling things apart.

Well, just yesterday, she knocked on my door. She had the window, perfectly intact, except for four tiny cracks in the glass emanating from the head of the goat. One of the goat's horns was longer than the other, due to the properties of leaded glass and the difficulty of making shapes in the process. I have a little bit of restoration to do, mostly cleaning and removal of caulking, and, of course, some kind of frame to secure it.

But here is the awesome thing! I was able to share with my new neighbor the "coincidence" between the stained glass and yesterday's reading in the Book of Daniel! So, I'm thinking that God allowed the stained glass picture of the goat to be placed in that trailer twenty years ago, just for that moment.

PS. You folks know me, and you KNOW I am NOT making this up.

I love how God orchestrates . . . I pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, for the Salvation of every soul in Israel and abroad, for my son that God would send him a reminder of Himself, for my grandchildren that they would know the Glory of the LORD and the Salvation that is theirs in Christ, for your families. Amen.
