Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

Daniel 7

Daniel’s Dream of Four Beasts

7 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying in bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream.

2 Daniel said: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. 3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea.

4 “The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a human being, and the mind of a human was given to it.

5 “And there before me was a second beast, which looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides, and it had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, ‘Get up and eat your fill of flesh!’

6 “After that, I looked, and there before me was another beast, one that looked like a leopard. And on its back it had four wings like those of a bird. This beast had four heads, and it was given authority to rule.

7 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast—terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large iron teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left. It was different from all the former beasts, and it had ten horns.

8 “While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. This horn had eyes like the eyes of a human being and a mouth that spoke boastfully.

9 “As I looked,

“thrones were set in place,
and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
His clothing was as white as snow;
the hair of his head was white like wool.
His throne was flaming with fire,
and its wheels were all ablaze.
10 A river of fire was flowing,
    coming out from before him.
Thousands upon thousands attended him;
ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
The court was seated,
    and the books were opened.

11 “Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. 12 (The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time.)

13 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man,[a] coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
Honor, Glory and Worship,
For Your Alone Are The One True God!
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent,
Holy, Righteous, and Just,
There is No One Like You!
Our Creator, and Creator of All That Is,
You Are The Great I AM,
And All Of Creation Sings of Your Glory!

Abba Father, We Run To You For Refuge,
To Your Everlasting Arms.
You Are Our High Tower,
Our Refuge and Our Strength,
Our Ever-Present Help in Times of Trouble!
Let Our cries Rise to You amidst the tumult and noise of this age,
For You Are The God Who Sees All, and Hears All!

When we are confronted by the success of the wicked,
Keep us assured that it is only for a season.
When we see them dance in the streets at our misfortune,
Give us the quiet confidence that we are Your beloved.
When they mock at us,
And say "Where is Your God?",
Give Us The Words to Say That Lift Up Your Name,
And Give us the Victory.

As a Good Father chastises His Children,
You chastise us.
As a Fine Jeweler cleaves a diamond,
So You recreate us in Your Image Daily.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

After reading the familiar Sunday-School Stories of the Fiery Furnace, the Lions Den, and the Handwriting on the Wall, we are smacked right between the eyes with the Apocalyptic Visions of Daniel's Dreams. While some revisionists may pretend that these were written after the fact, or that Daniel had gone a bit daft in his old age, the internal evidence says otherwise. Daniel states right away that this Dream took place in the "first year of Belshazzar's reign. We just read that Belshazzar was the ruler who saw the handwriting on the wall, and then, that very night, was conquered by the Medes and the Persians. And, also, remember that Jesus refers to these Passages in His own Apocalyptic Sermon, quoted in Matthew 24. If you believe that Jesus is the Messiah, or even as a very good and wise teacher (BOTH in my Faith!), He would NEVER quote a fake prophet or a senile old man. And if a scholar demands extra-Biblical sources for corroboration of these events, there is always the Cylinder of Cyrus that tells the same story as the first part of the dream (The Winged Lion).

Since the Dead Sea Scrolls contain quite a few copies of the Book of Daniel, it would seem that the Essenes thought it was for real too. And, just look at this Passage from Flavius Josephus:

“. . . he [Alexander the Great] gave his hand to the high priest and, with the Jews running beside him, entered the city. Then he went up to the temple, where he sacrificed to God under the direction of the high priest, and showed due honour to the priests and to the high priest himself. And, when the book of Daniel was shown to him, in which he had declared that one of the Greeks would destroy the empire of the Persians, he believed himself to be the one indicated; and in his joy he dismissed the multitude for the time being, but on the following day he summoned them again and told them to ask for any gifts which they might desire. . .”
Loeb Classical Library ed. of Ant. XI 317, p. 467 notes c and e)

Josephus assumes this event took place in 332BC, which was when Alexander entered Jerusalem.

Daniel's "History of the World of the Future" uses animals to symbolize empires in the same way that Nebuchadnezzar's Dream used precious metals. The Winged Lion is the "Head of Gold". Babylon actually used a winged lion as the symbol of their empire. Like Gold the King of Precious Metals, the Lion is the "King of Beasts". The Wings of the Eagle show that the Lion could swoop down onto his enemies and crush them.

The other animals correspond to the following empires of Persia, Greece, and finally, Rome with its Iron Teeth.

Daniel's Vision of Heaven, with its Wheels of Fire and Glorious Throne, correspond with Ezekiel, Isaiah, Zechariah, and Revelation.
