Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

Daniel 4

The Dream Is Fulfilled

28 All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”

31 Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you. 32 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”

33 Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.

34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.

His dominion is an eternal dominion;
    his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
35 All the peoples of the earth
    are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
    with the powers of heaven
    and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
    or say to him: “What have you done?”

36 At the same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor were returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and became even greater than before. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.

Our Father, Who Art In Heaven,
Hallowed Be Thy Name!

How Wonderful You Are, Dear Father!
How Glorious and Mighty!
Yet Your Mercies Endure Forever,
From Everlasting to Everlasting.
How delightful it is To Praise and Worship You,
For You Alone Are Worthy of Our Adoration!

The Earth is Yours,
And The Fullness Thereof,
The Universe in All Its Vast Expanse,
And Even the Tiny Things We Can't see With Our Eyes.
The Molecules and The Atoms,
Even The Quarks and Neutrinos are ALL Your Invention!
You Are the Strong Force that Holds it All Together,
And You Are The Great Designer,
The Exquisite Artist,
The All in All,
The Eternal Ancient of Days,
And Your Mercies Endure Forever!

We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will,
Your Word,
and Your Promise.
We Pray For The leaders of Israel,
and of Our own Beloved USA,
That they will be led by Your Holy Spirit,
And will make godly and wise decisions for the people.


Keep us From Temptation, Oh LORD.
There are so many idols that can distract us,
Not only of silver and gold,
But of flesh and blood,
Philosophies and Theories,
Electronic Vanities that take our Eyes off You,
Politics and Sports,
Entertainment and Careers.
Even good and decent things can be idols if they distract us from You.
Lead Us, Not Into temptation,
But Deliver Us From Evil.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

On this Day of Remembrance, our Chapter is most relevant. Some would claim that personal or national disasters come without warning, and we have no control over our destiny. But, as we can see from The Book of Daniel, the issue is NOT that we are not warned. The issue is that we ignore the warnings.

It was a total act of God's Sovereign Grace that the prisoners taken from Judah included Daniel. Daniel became a trusted adviser to the King, and was able to share God's Wisdom for years in the glittering court of the pagan ruler. From the moment Daniel grew strong and healthy even though he refused "defiled" foods, through his interpretation of the King's dreams, through the "Fiery Furnace" incident, Nebuchadnezzar was able to witness the Power, the Provision, and the Uniqueness of the One True God. The Testimony and Witness of Daniel and his friends should have converted Nebuchadnezzar on the spot.

Indeed, after each successful Dream Interpretation, miracle, or good advice, Nebuchadnezzar did acknowledge the SUPREMACY of Daniel's God, but, evidently not His Uniqueness. He still acted like a polytheist, and just filed the warnings away in the back of his brain.

The last straw came when he surveyed his beautiful kingdom and mused that he himself was a "god". It was at that moment that his dream about the tree was fulfilled.

Remember, though, in the Dream, the tree was cut down, but secured with metal straps around the stump. It would grow again. But it would take seven years of insanity to bring this about.

There is a similar story about a king in the Book of Acts chapter 12. Herod gives a speech in his throne room that causes the people to worship him as a god. Instead of rebuking the public for this blasphemy, Herod delights in it. He is immediately struck with a terminal illness that causes him to be eaten by worms until he dies. Same sin, different outcomes. Perhaps Herod had already used up all his "second chances".

Like Nebuchadnezzar, and Herod, the attack on 9/11/01 did not happen in a vacuum. There were many warnings, and have been more since. The problem is not HEARING the warnings, but HEEDING them. What, do you want it in WRITING? We'll talk about THAT tomorrow.
