A Catholic school in Nashville, Tennessee has banned the "Harry Potter" series because a reverend at the school claims the books include both good and evil magic, as well as spells, which, if read by a human can conjure "evil spirits," Tennessean.
The publication obtained an email from Rev. Dan Reehil, a pastor at Saint Edwards Catholic School parish, which was sent to parents. In the email, Reehil explains in the email that he has consulted several exorcists in the U.S. and Rome, and it was recommended that the school remove the books, the Tennessean reports.
"These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception," Rev. Reehil said of the seven-part "Harry Potter" book series. "The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text," the email continues.
CBS News has reached out to the school district for comment. The Tennessean says Rev. Reehil is out of office until Wednesday, but Rebecca Hammel, the superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, confirmed Reehil did indeed send the email.

That’s why I didn’t vote for Hillary.
Everything about those stupid novels and others is bad.
Pope Benedict frowned on Harry Potter but Pope Francis celebrates it.
What’s worse is people who are so dumb they can’t tell fact from fantasy. Let’s be sure to ban all the science fiction books too because they describe other worlds and creatures. And all the novels that describe affairs, or crimes, or other naughty things.
As long as Catholic schools are laser-focusing their energy on books that run the risk of “conjuring evil spirits” there’s certainly no reason to worry about the priest who has been a pedophile for decades but keeps getting moved around and his acts covered up. Forget actual evil that really exists, there’s a world of fiction that demands full attention!
I don’t disagree with anything you wrote, however ...
compared with a lot of the insanity in the Catholic world these days, ditching Harry Potter is almost sensible.
I gather you do not believe in evil spirits.
Y’know, this seems like silliness to me, but given the fact that libraries are hosting “Transgendered story-time”, I’m 100% behind this push-back.
Western Civilization is drawing to a close, but at least we can put up some road blocks.
which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text,
Really?
There's a big difference between "not worrying" and not being able to do anything. What are we supposed to do, "vote" them out?
Was David wrong in not killing Saul?
As an adult, I tried reading the first Harry Potter book and couldn’t get through it. It was absolutely unreadable junk.
Bump
An organization that pretends to be a church that is currently headed by the most anti-christian evil pope in history is afraid that kids will think that Harry Potters magic wand is real? Whats the real problem? Are they afraid Dumbledore is going to take advantage of Harrys Pooter and remind them of the Catholic Priests fondness for little boys? As you might guess I am no fan of the evil Vatican. I am a christian and nothing offends me more than what the Vatican has done in the name of christianity over the last thousand years.
How much of what offends you have you been able to debunk?
I used to pooh-pooh the concerns about the Harry Potter series.
Then J.K. Rowling, the author, when totally to the dark side. First, by completely and unnecessarily, for political correctness, making Dumbledore into a homosexual.
Then, for no reason but political correctness, making one of the principle female leads black, when there had been no mention of it before.
She has become extremely rich (some say over a billion dollars) from the proceeds.
Her bowing to political correctness of the day is unfortunate.
Its a private school. They can decide the curriculum. Why is this news?
You miss the point,I suspect you are incapable of understanding the supernatural influences in all magic...sad and risky.
Yes...
