Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 24

24 During Jehoiakim’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. But then he turned against Nebuchadnezzar and rebelled. 2 The Lord sent Babylonian,[a] Aramean, Moabite and Ammonite raiders against him to destroy Judah, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by his servants the prophets. 3 Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command, in order to remove them from his presence because of the sins of Manasseh and all he had done, 4 including the shedding of innocent blood. For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to forgive.

5 As for the other events of Jehoiakim’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 6 Jehoiakim rested with his ancestors. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

7 The king of Egypt did not march out from his own country again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his territory, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

At this point in time, God uses the Babylonian Empire to chastise Judah.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name!
You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship,
You Alone Are The One True God
Omnipotent,
Omniscient,
Omnipresent, and Transcendent,
Yet You Condescend to touch the Lives of those who love You!

Have Mercy Upon Us, Oh Gracious LORD,
In Our Pilgrimage of Praise,
Offering You the Fruit of Our Lips,
The Sacrifice of Praise and Thanksgiving.
We Thank You Profoundly For the Way You Show Your Mighty Power,
By Making the Will of The People Known in America.
We Give You the Glory For This.
We Thank You For Answered Prayer.
Like Servants to their Master,
We Give You All the Credit for the Victory.

Father, the contempt and scorn of the enemy is sometimes overwhelming!
But You Are King!
You Are LORD!
Forgive us for forgetting that sometimes.

We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today's Reading, reported in crisp, news-anchor style, tells of the greatest disaster to befall the People of Judah up till that time. The Magnificent City of David, the Glorious Temple of Solomon, and the Eternal Promise to Abraham seem to be all for nothing. Never mind that the Prophets had been warning the people for centuries that this would happen. What unfolds next is commemorated every year to this day on the 9th Day of the Hebrew month of Av. The Conquest of Jerusalem, The Destruction of the Temple, The Carrying Off of Her Treasures, and the Exile of Her People, would happen again in the Future, but this was the first, and perhaps the most traumatic.

Here is an interesting aside: Both History and Tradition allege that many other disasters for the Jewish People occurred on this very same date on the Jewish Calendar, throughout the years Here are just a few:

Five calamities

According to the Mishnah (Taanit 4:6), five specific events occurred on the ninth of Av that warrant fasting:

The Twelve Spies sent by Moses to observe the land of Canaan returned from their mission. Only two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, brought a positive report, while the others spoke disparagingly about the land. The majority report caused the Children of Israel to cry, panic and despair of ever entering the "Promised Land". For this, they were punished by God that their generation would not enter the land.[4] The midrash quotes God as saying about this event, "You cried before me pointlessly, I will fix for you [this day as a day of] crying for the generations",[5] alluding to the future misfortunes which occurred on the same date.

The First Temple built by King Solomon was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar in 587 BCE, and the population of the Kingdom of Judah was sent into the Babylonian exile.[6] According to the Bible, the First Temple's destruction began on the 7th of Av (2 Kings 25:8) and continued until the 10th (Jeremiah 52:12). According to the Talmud,[7] the actual destruction of the Temple began on the Ninth of Av, and it continued to burn throughout the Tenth of Av.

The Second Temple built by Ezra and Nehemiah was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE,[8] scattering the people of Judea and commencing the Jewish exile from the Holy Land that continues to this day.[6]

The Romans subsequently crushed Bar Kokhba's revolt and destroyed the city of Betar, killing over 500,000 Jewish civilians (approximately 580,000) on August 4, 135 CE.[9]

Following the Bar Kokhba revolt, Roman commander Turnus Rufus plowed the site of the Temple in Jerusalem and the surrounding area, in 135 CE.[10]

Other calamities

Over time, Tisha B'Av has come to be a Jewish day of mourning, not only for these events, but also for later tragedies which occurred on or near the 9th of Av. References to some of these events appear in liturgy composed for Tisha B'Av (see below).

The First Crusade officially commenced on August 15, 1096 (Av 24, AM 4856), killing 10,000 Jews in its first month and destroying Jewish communities in France and the Rhineland.[9][11]

The Jews were expelled from England on July 18, 1290 (Av 9, AM 5050).[9]

The Jews were expelled from France on July 22, 1306 (Av 10, AM 5066).[12]

The Jews were expelled from Spain on July 31, 1492 (Av 7, AM 5252).[10]

Germany entered World War I on August 1–2, 1914 (Av 9–10, AM 5674), which caused massive upheaval in European Jewry and whose aftermath led to the Holocaust.[9]

On August 2, 1941 (Av 9, AM 5701), SS commander Heinrich Himmler formally received approval from the Nazi Party for "The Final Solution." As a result, the Holocaust began during which almost one third of the world's Jewish population perished.[13]

On July 23, 1942 (Av 9, AM 5702), began the mass deportation of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto, en route to Treblinka.[13]

The AMIA bombing, of the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, killed 85 and injured 300 on July 18, 1994 (10 Av, AM 5754).[14]

The Israeli disengagement from Gaza began in the Gaza Strip, expelling 8000 Jews who lived in Gush Katif; August 15, 2005; 10 Av, 5765.[15]

This is quoted from Wikipedia, but there are many other sites, including Chabad, that list the calamities that occurred on this date. Further information can be gleaned by using the search words "bad things that happened on Tish A b'Av". I found it fascinating!

Since the Time-Space Continuum was INVENTED by God, I am not surprised by these outrageous "coincidences". However, I know of no other ethnic group, religion, or region of people that have the same type of anomaly in their history. D'ya think, just maybe, The Creator of the Universe is trying to tell us something?

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance! (Psalm 33)

God Bless America!

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

I was lifting a quote directly from Wikipedia which I acknowledged at the end of the quotation. I always use BC/AD in my own writing.

Did you not notice that the quotes were in italics?

Please read a little more carefully before making accusations, my brother.

Peace be unto you.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

N his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his servant three years: then he turned and rebelled against him.

And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and
bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servants the prophets.
Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;

And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.

And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that pertained to the king of Egypt.

What a history of persecution. But remarkably the Jews still survive.
