Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 20

Envoys From Babylon

12 At that time Marduk-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah’s illness. 13 Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine olive oil—his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.

14 Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah and asked, “What did those men say, and where did they come from?”

“From a distant land,” Hezekiah replied. “They came from Babylon.”

15 The prophet asked, “What did they see in your palace?”

“They saw everything in my palace,” Hezekiah said. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”

16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord. 18 And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”

19 “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”

20 As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool and the tunnel by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 21 Hezekiah rested with his ancestors. And Manasseh his son succeeded him as king.

Here is the first mention of Babylon, an up-and-coming world power, and what does Hezekiah do? He takes them on a tour of the Treasury!

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, You are Forever Holy and Righteous.
How Excellent is Your Name!
It is You Who Stretched out the Heavens,
And it is You Who laid the Foundations of the Earth.
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
and You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham!
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
Eternal,
and Almighty,
We Can Do Nothing But Fall On Our Faces
Before You in Endless Worship and Thanksgiving!

How Many Times are we shown Your Glory,
Your Omnipotence,
Your Provision,
Your Mercy,
And Your great Love,
And yet We Turn To Idols?
Our idols may not be oxen that eat grass,
but often times they still glitter with gold,
And our land is polluted with the blood of 60 MILLION of of sons and daughters,
that have been sacrificed to the idols of "feminism" and "convenience".
Forgive us, Oh LORD, this Great Sin Upon our Land.
Forgive us also, of making an Idol of the Earth, and Nature,
which are YOUR Creation.

The result of This idolatry is of course,
the "Green" Movement,
which threatens our Freedom,
Our Economy, and Our Way of Life.
Father, return us to proper balance,
The Worship of the CREATOR, rather than CREATION,
And Proper Stewardship over that Which YOU Gave us Dominion.

Thank You, Abba, for the Comfort and Peace of Your Holy Word.
Thank You For Your Promises, which are Forever.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation as well,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

The people in the Tour group had already gone home, but Hubby and I had an extra week in Jerusalem to do whatever we wanted. No bus, no schedules, no guides, but we were determined to see things that were not on the tour, particularly the Archeological Digs that were all over the city.

On one day, we went to the newly uncovered Stairway on the South Side of the Temple Mount, which were from the time of the Second Temple Period. Other days, we saw things that were even older.

The older finds were deep underground, as centuries of conquest, destruction, and rebuilding had raised the entire city, like a wedding cake, into a hill of layers.

On one day, we went over 45 feet underground to see what was left of the city walls that had been built by King Hezekiah. We also walked through the water tunnel he had built, which was constructed by starting at each end simultaneously and meeting in the middle. Engineers still marvel at these achievements. But even more marvelous is the fact that these two very visible artifacts confirm today's Passage.

But, there is another "confirmation" that is not as obvious as the wall or the water tunnel. That is in Isaiah's prophecy regarding the Babylonian Captivity.

At the time of Hezekiah's foolish boasting to the Babylonian Envoys, The World Power was Assyria. Indeed, the Northern Kingdom had been conquered and many people exiled and "replaced" by the Assyrian Empire. Babylon was a small kingdom when they sent envoys to inquire of Hezekiah's health, and were "nobodys" on the World Stage. Hezekiah was trying to curry favor with potential allies, including Egypt and Babylon, so he may have been trying to impress the envoys by showing off his wealth and power. In this way he hoped to form an alliance that would protect his kingdom from the Assyrians.

So, why the rebuke from Isaiah?

Isaiah wasn't merely chastising Hezekiah for "spilling the beans" about the Treasury, nor was he implying that the envoys were "casing the joint" for future conquest. The Babylonian Captivity was more than 100 years in the future (An AWESOME Fulfilment of this Prophecy, by the way), so what was Isaiah's problem?

Remember, Hezekiah was a GOOD King. He got rid of the idols and made sure his people worshiped The One True God. He had been healed of a deadly disease, and had seen The Lord actually "change the Laws of Physics" to prove His Power. He and his People were in a Covenant Relationship with The Master of the Universe!

And yet, here he was, pathetically trying to curry favor with some ambassadors from a two-bit kingdom on a "sick-visit", and pagan idolaters on top of that!

Hezekiah! WHAT were you THINKING????

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the purposes of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His inheritance! (Psalm 33)

God Bless America!

Is it possible that Hezekiah was thinking self preservation with a side of pride?

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Pool of Hezekiah"
John Fulleylove (1902)

_ that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the
gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.
Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.

And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.

Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.

And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?

And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
