Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 19

Hezekiah’s Prayer

14 Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. 15 And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. 16 Give ear, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see; listen to the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God.

17 “It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. 18 They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands. 19 Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone, Lord, are God.”

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

King Hezekiah's prayer is not very long, but is a great example of how to pray in impossible situations.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
We Come into Your Glorious Presence With Singing,
And into Your Courts With Praise!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The Most High,
The Great I AM.
God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob,
We Worship You and You Alone,
Creator of All That Is,
And Sovereign LORD of All Nature,
Which is Under Your Control at All Times.
How conceited we humans can be,
Thinking that we somehow can control the mighty forces
That are Yours and Yours Alone!
What hubris, to think that somehow we are little gods
who can influence and change the course of climate,
history,
or Your Will!

You Are So Wonderful, Oh LORD!
Righteous and Holy
Yet Loving and Compassionate,
Full of Grace and Truth.
How We Love To Sing of Your Glory!

LORD, we pray Daily for the Protection
Of your Beloved People,
And for the Peace of Jerusalem,
According to Your Covenant and Promise.
We Pray for Our leaders in the USA,
That they may speak kindly to Jerusalem,
And therefore be able to partake of your blessings.

We pray for the end to Slavery,
and Hostage-taking wherever it is practiced today.
We Pray for our brethren,
Christians and Jews,
Held Captive in Hostile Lands.
We Pray That Anything that Defiles Your Holy Places,
Shall be Removed.

Blessed Be Your Name, Oh LORD!
We Wait and Pray.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation as well,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today's Reading shows us that even a short prayer can have amazing impact. Just remember, it is the RECIPIENT of our Prayer Who has the Power, not the words of our prayers or the eloquence of our presentation. With that in mind, here is today's little story.

About a month ago, my little sister won two free tickets to a much-anticipated 50th Anniversary Concert of the renowned guitarist Carlos Santana. This was an amazing win, as her very first rock concert was 50 years ago, at the Music Hall in Boston, to which I had taken her, and it was Carlos Santana! Naturally, she invited me to accompany her this time around. There was a problem though. Her dear hubby Don has Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease, and could NOT be left alone in the house. Nor could she take him instead of me (I really would not have minded that) because the venue was 36 miles away ALL highway driving, which neither Sis nor her husband could manage. Her son said he would hang out with dad for the night, but he was in Nashville, and the day he was supposed to fly home, he broke a rib playing ball and was in no shape to chaperone anybody. I felt a little guilty praying about it because of a few things:

1. It was a 50th Anniversary Concert commemorating Woodstock, which was not all "Peace and Love" as the Media would have us believe. Lots of idolatry, drug-use, immorality, and other junk were very much a part of that event, and I felt a bit uncomfortable celebrating it.

2. Carlos Santana is a brilliant artist, but I feared he might launch into an anti-Trump tirade like some entertainers have done (he DIDN'T!) I was also concerned that he might preach about some false gods or other nonsense, as he has gone through a number of religious quests over the years (He DIDN'T!)

3. It was an outdoor venue for 19,000 people, traffic was going to be a nightmare, and Massachusetts has a real mosquito and tick problem (eyew). And there was the matter of my B-I-L.

Just around noon yesterday, my sis got a call from a friend of her husband's, a disabled veteran. He had three free tickets to the same concert (from the VA, I guess), and he invited a friend and my B-I-L! So we made arrangements to meet them at the box office, and Don would go with them and Sis and I would go to our own seats, and then we would meet up afterwards, when the venue disgorged its 19,000 people all at the same time.

Now, as we were waiting at the Box Office, who walks up on his own two feet but Thaddeus (remember when we prayed for his and his blood-poisoned foot?) Somehow he had managed to snag two tickets for himself and his wife. Hugs all around, and then we all piled into the "Security" line which made Logan Airport look easy. Finally, we prepared to enter the venue when we were confronted by the sight of a large, older man, flat on the ground receiving CPR from a younger man. As the man did compression after compression, the police pulled up in a golf cart and proceeded to take over. The man did not seem to be responding to the CPR, and the crowd was stalled because people had to "look". Suddenly, I said to my sister, "Let's Pray." We stopped short in the sea of elderly tie-dyed hippies, extended our hands toward the man, and prayed for him...just a short prayer, nothing fancy, and then we went into the concert.

The Opening Act was The Doobie Brothers, and they did all their hit songs from the 70's. When they launched into "Jesus is Just Alright With Me", a murmur went through the crowd, and there were actually some people who were praying, not just grooving to the music. It was something I had never witnessed at a rock concert before.

This mood persisted throughout the Santana Concert. There was even a song where the Lead Singer sang a song to The Holy Spirit, which was an incredibly prayerful song, and a hush came over the crowd.

So with all the tie-dye, silver ponytails, and rock music, there was definitely something else going on.

At the end of the concert, I grabbed a security guard at the gate and asked him how the "CPR Man" was doing.

"Oh, he'll be OK" the guard said. "We got an ambulance through and he's resting in the hospital, Thank God."

And THAT'S my story for today, fresh from 12 hours ago.

PS. The drummer was Carlos Santana's wife of many years, and the piano player/vocalist was his son. It was like a Family Party.

No, My Dear Sister. It’s not “just us”.

There are more of “us” around than we realize, even in The Peoples’ Republic of Massachusetts!

Then, allow me to express my favorite Tennessean sentiment:
YEE-hawww!!! to my Massachusetts Sisters and Brothers. P.S. Can you stay dry-eyed when “Amazing Grace” is played on pipes at a military event?

A great story. Prayer changes things. And we have some Santana CDs loaded on our iPad. Play them during trips.

Joining in prayer, left that other site, for the Peace of Jerusalem.
