Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 15

Azariah King of Judah

15 In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah[a] son of Amaziah king of Judah began to reign. 2 He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother’s name was Jekoliah; she was from Jerusalem. 3 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Amaziah had done. 4 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.

5 The Lord afflicted the king with leprosy[b] until the day he died, and he lived in a separate house.[c] Jotham the king’s son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.

6 As for the other events of Azariah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 7 Azariah rested with his ancestors and was buried near them in the City of David. And Jotham his son succeeded him as king.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Back to the Southern Kingdom again, and we meet Azariah, son of Amaziah. Like his father, Azariah was a decent king, but he still was negligent about removing the bamas. These were the hills and grottos where people burned incense, thus keeping their pagan practices alive.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone Are Worthy;
You Alone Are LORD;
You Alone Are The Most High!
You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham,
You Are The Ancient Of Days,
LORD of Hosts,
and Rock of All Ages,
Our Creator,
You Have Made Us,
and All That Is.
You Are The Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever.
Your Loving Kindness Is from Everlasting To Everlasting.
Even When We Are Unfaithful,
You Are Always Faithful.

You are the One Righteous Judge, Oh Lord.
Who are we to second-guess You,
or to attempt to direct Your Plan with our own pre-conceived notions?

Arise, Oh LORD,
Let Your Enemies be scattered,
Let those who boast before You be put to shame.
Let those who mock Your Name on the public airways be confused and disoriented.
Let them contradict themselves so obviously,
That even the most simple-minded can see through them,
And even the most stubborn will hang their heads in shame
At their stiff-necked refusal to see Your Will!

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation as well,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Today's Reading gives us the perfect example of why it is important to study the "Whole Counsel of God", meaning, of course, the Holy Scriptures. First of all, we must discern that King Azariah is the same person as King Uzziah, whose name we will see again and again in the Bible. Next, we discern that he was the King of JUDAH which was the Southern Kingdom. He is of the House of David, and he reigned fifty-two years. A lot can happen in fifty-two years! And, in Uzziah's case, the rest of the Bible attests to a very tumultuous period, including a string of exceptionally lousy kings just to the north of him in Israel's Northern Kingdom.

First let's look at the description of King Uzziah. From the Passage in 2 Kings, we can see that he was one of the "good kings". He tore down the ba'al statues and stopped the worship of the demonic gods of the Canaanites. But, once again, like the other good kings, he fell short of tearing down the groves and high places which were a temptation to the common people. In other words, his "religious" reforms were just for the "establishment" while the regular folks were allowed to continue in their superstition and folk-religion.

Still, that little omission does not seem to be worthy of being stricken with Leprosy! What was Uzziah's big sin that he should have received such a dire punishment?

2 Chronicles 26 gives us a far more detailed description of King Uzziah's reign. After a series of political successes, the sin of pride rears its ugly head and Uzziah usurps the role of the Aaronic Priesthood. He goes right into the Temple and burns incense before the Holy of Holies as if he were not only the King, but the High Priest as well. This was Blasphemy of the highest order, and the punishment made him so loathsome that he could no longer even enter his own palace, much less the Temple.

The reign of Uzziah is also remarkable because it is the place on the timeline where God raises up one of His Mightiest prophets, Isaiah. Check this out:

Isaiah’s Commission

6 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

9 He said, “Go and tell this people:

“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’

10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.[a]
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”

11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”

And he answered:

“Until the cities lie ruined
and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
and the fields ruined and ravaged,
12 until the Lord has sent everyone far away
and the land is utterly forsaken.
13 And though a tenth remains in the land,
it will again be laid waste.
But as the terebinth and oak
leave stumps when they are cut down,
so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

The "Holy Seed" which becomes a "stump in the land" is the House of David, and, its Final Blossoming, The Messiah, Son of David, the "Shoot From The Stump of Jesse".

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

N the twenty and seventh year of Jero-
boam king of Israel began Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign.

Sixteen years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned two and fifty years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was
Jecholiah of Jerusalem.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done;

Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.

And the LORD smote the king, so that he was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king's son was over the house, judging the people of the land.

And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

So Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

Amen, faithful Day Brightener. Thank you for unraveling this easy to ignore portion of scripture.

Concerning your prayer:Exodus 23:27 (NKJV)
“I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn [their] backs to you.
