It would be wonderful if all were on the same page.

However, Roman Catholicism has departed from the Scriptures. Why encourage someone to join a denomination that teaches and/or allows things such as the Brown Scapular and its false promise?

Why encourage someone to join a denomination that says one has to go through Mary first to get to Jesus?

All are contradictions of the New Testament.

Dear ealgeone, we discussed the Brown Scapular before and you may want to go back and read what I wrote to you and metmom.

I explained that it's a sacramental (a blessed, symbolic object) like a wedding ring (which is also classified, in the Catholic faith, as a sacramental.) You scoffed at that but did not comment further.

But if you, or Mrs. Ealgeone, wear a wedding ring, think of what it means and what it doesn't mean. Its intent is to publicly manifest your wedded state, your belonging to your spouse. Most people have wedding rings in our culture, but they are not Biblical. They are neither New Testament nor anti-New Testament. They are meaningful to many, but a ring (or rings) will never be considered essential for a marriage.

Sacramentals can only be thought to contradict the New Testament if they are misconstrued or misrepresented.

Now, thinking of our love for Mary: maybe we would all hope to be "beloved disciples" of Christ. I would think a beloved disciple of Jesus would love His mother, even adopt her as his own.

Seeing His mother Many and His discople John at the foot of His cross, didn't Jesus say to Mary ---with great love and with one of His painful, dying breaths --- "Mother, behold your son"? And to John, "Behold your mother"?
