WASHINGTON, D.C. - Two Catholic bishops joined almost a dozen leaders of various Christian groups in Baltimore denouncing tweets by President Donald Trump, who in late July called Marylands 7th Congressional District a disgusting, rat and rodent infested place where no human being would want to live.
Archbishop William E. Lori and Auxiliary Bishop Denis J. Madden of Baltimore signed the letter dated July 29 addressed to the president, and also signed by bishops from the citys Episcopal and Lutheran church, as well as Methodist, evangelical and Presbyterian leaders, among others.
Recently, much to our dismay and profound sadness, you publicly slurred our beloved city of Baltimore in a tweet, the letter said. We will not dignify the slur by repeating it. It was horrible, demeaning and beneath the dignity of a political leader who should be encouraging us all to strive and work for a more civil, just and compassionate society.
They invited the president to visit Baltimore and to see what faith groups are doing to help the citys neighborhoods: Teaching children to read and study, reclaiming abandoned buildings for housing and other community needs, helping recent immigrants and refugees, feeding, clothing and housing the homeless, planting trees, growing gardens, and cleaning up streets.
We are asking for your help - not tweets of denunciation, they said in the letter.
The religious leaders say its easy to scapegoat others for the long-standing and systemic problems a city may face, but beauty can be found in cities where different races, languages, cultures, economic conditions come together, although they can also be targets for those who cannot - or will not - see their beauty through the eyes of God and in their inhabitants.

Pharisees and Sadducees had the same feelings toward Christ when He told them what they were....snakes and vipers. No Trump is NOT Christ, but his cutting tweet is accurate and something those more politically inclined do NOT want to hear.
The social gospel is not The Gospel!!
+1
I realized a long time ago that sometimes the leaders of my Catholic Faith are wrong. They are not infallible,, nor are they omniscient. Many times they are more motivated to keep the donations flowing vs the doctrine.
Guarantee you can find bishops using the exact same language to describe third world locations where they are trying to raise funds...
Its worse than that, Im afraid, by a lot, sadly. The Western US Church is all-in with the political agenda of the Vatican, pushing globalism, climate change, open borders, one world order, even Behind it.
Trump is simply in their way.
*Thanks be to God.*
When I first heard the epithet “virtue signaler” I thought of such people. To get money for their religious groups they keep silent about babykilling abortion promoters and speak up on TV against “racists” to get in the spotlight.
Selective.
It’s also important to note that there are 177 Bishop positions in the US. Having two out of 177 being wrong isn’t a bad thing, especially Sr Lucy said “The devil has succeeded in bringing in evil (to the Church) under the guise of good and the blind are beginning to lead others, as the Lord tells us in His Gospel.”
It's more like 175 out of 177 being wrong.
But. Is. He. Wrong?
Leave it to the castrati of the church and their Marxist pope to further alienate whatever little support this coward church still has.
And people wonder why this is happening?

Until the hierarchy gets rid of Francis, the Bishops and Cardinals should remain SILENT about everything but church matters.
I feel I am hanging on by a thread.
If they don’t remain quiet, there will be a major exodus.
I’m tryin’, and thanks for the encouragement.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a great Pope while we have a great President. I’ll keep praying, Doc.
He claims it was because the bishops didn't have "jurisdiction" over each other. Meaning he was more worried about legalism than about children.
I have little use for most of our bishops
