Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 9

Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah

14 So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth Gilead against Hazael king of Aram, 15 but King Joram[b] had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, “If you desire to make me king, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah king of Judah had gone down to see him.

17 When the lookout standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troops approaching, he called out, “I see some troops coming.”

“Get a horseman,” Joram ordered. “Send him to meet them and ask, ‘Do you come in peace?’”

18 The horseman rode off to meet Jehu and said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”

“What do you have to do with peace?” Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”

The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them, but he isn’t coming back.”

19 So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”

Jehu replied, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”

20 The lookout reported, “He has reached them, but he isn’t coming back either. The driving is like that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives like a maniac.”

21 “Hitch up my chariot,” Joram ordered. And when it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah rode out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of ground that had belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Have you come in peace, Jehu?”

“How can there be peace,” Jehu replied, “as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel abound?”

23 Joram turned about and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, “Treachery, Ahaziah!”

24 Then Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot. 25 Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the Lord spoke this prophecy against him: 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.’[c] Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”

27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan.[d] Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam, but he escaped to Megiddo and died there. 28 His servants took him by chariot to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David. 29 (In the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.)

The incident of Naboth's Vineyard seems to be the Last Straw with regards to Ahab and Jezebel's wickedness.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Abba, Father,
How Wonderful You Are!
And LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy To be Praised,
For You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe.
We Thank You, Father,
For Your Holy Word,
Which You have allowed to be preserved through Your People,
We Thank You for Revealing Your Secrets
Through Your Word,
To those who have will have eyes to see,
and ears to hear.
How Wonderful You Are,
How Holy and Righteous
And Just in Your Judgments!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised,
For You Alone Are The One True God!

1. Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation;
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2. Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3. Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
4. That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.(from Psalm 69 KJV)

Abba Father,
I Run To You Everlasting Arms For Comfort!
I am SO Appalled at the Hatred and Total Disregard of any LOGIC whatsoever,
That characterizes the enemy of our souls!
No decent argument makes any sense to him,
No sensitivity to any other viewpoint,
No Consideration,
No Solution,
No Discussion.
They are so blinded by their hatred and evil, it just doesn't make sense to me!
Truly Your Word Speaks the Truth,
when You Tell Us that Light and Darkness are not compatible.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation as well,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

In the Finale of the Musical "Les Miserables" a distant voice sings about Freedom (This starts at about 6:56 at the linked video). Other voices join and soon the entire stage is filled with people singing "Do You Hear The People Sing?". During the 2016 Election, this song was used very effectively in the Trump Campaign. (Yeah, I know that the song has left-wing origins, all the way back to Victor Hugo, but it seemed to have a more effective message for me than the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want"...another favorite!)

I saw Les Miz twice, and in both performances there wasn't a dry eye in the house during the finale. There is something about the idea of "Each One Reach One" when fighting for Freedom.

As Jehu approached the place (driving like a maniac in his chariot), King Joram (Northern Kingdom) sent out horsemen to find out what was going on. King Ahaziah (Southern Kingdom) was, at this point in time, in cahoots with Joram.

Morale in the official army must have been very low, as the messengers needed very little persuasion to join up with Jehu.

Finally King Joram himself went out, and ended up getting shot.

There is some question as to whether Jehu should have also gone after Ahaziah, because he was the king of the Southern Kingdom, not Israel, and he was also of the House of David. But he was also related to Ahab both by marriage and by birth. Jezebel could have been his Mother-In-Law. (Imagine THAT!)

Ahaziah flees to Megiddo only to die there.

I have been to the Tel(hill) of Megiddo, and from that vantage point one can see a huge flat valley (Har) on which a huge battle could easily take place. In fact, there is yet to be waged the greatest battle of all time upon that very ground. We know the name of the valley as "Har Megiddo", otherwise known as "Armageddon."

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

God Bless America!

If the prophecy didn’t include Ahaziah, or if sending a terrified Ahaziah back to his people to terrify them, too....
Either or both reasons could apply. I’m just grateful that Jehu doesn’t drive the church bus.

Amen. I speak a blessing on the sons of Abraham in the flesh to be enlightened and shown the Father’s grace and mercy. With you, I command blinders to be removed in the name of Jesus and release the Spirit of Truth. Hallelujah and amen.

“I’m just grateful that Jehu doesn’t drive the church bus.”

These days it might be a GOOD idea to get a driver who can drive and shoot at the same time.

“Do You Hear The People Sing?” - is quite a moving song. Taps into our inner cry for freedom from bondage.

Also interesting about Megiddo.

Joining in prayer, left that other site, for the Peace of Jerusalem.
