Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

(Old Testament)

2 Kings 9

Jehu Anointed King of Israel

9 The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak into your belt, take this flask of olive oil with you and go to Ramoth Gilead. 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”

4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said.

“For which of us?” asked Jehu.

“For you, commander,” he replied.

6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel. 7 You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel. 8 The whole house of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel—slave or free.[a] 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah. 10 As for Jezebel, dogs will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.’” Then he opened the door and ran.

11 When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this maniac come to you?”

“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied.

12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.”

Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’”

13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet and shouted, “Jehu is king!”

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

Although Ahab is dead and buried, it seems that Jezebel is still floating around the palace and making trouble.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Oh Give Thanks Unto the LORD, For he is Good, and His mercy Endures Forever!
Let Israel say,
"His Mercy Endures Forever!"
Let The House of Aaron say,
"His Mercy Endures Forever!"
Let them now that fear the LORD say,
that his mercy endures for ever.
Our Father Who Art in Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
We Come into your Presence,
Overcome With Awe,
For You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship.
You Alone Are the One True God of Abraham!

1. O God, thou art my God;
early will I seek thee:
my soul thirsteth for thee,
my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land,
where no water is...

I called upon the LORD in distress:
the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.
The LORD is on my side;
I will not fear:
what can man do unto me?

The LORD taketh my part with them that help me:
therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

It is better to trust in the LORD
than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

11. But the king shall rejoice in God;
every one that sweareth by him shall glory:
but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.(From Psalm 63 KJV)

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins of Our Own Nation as well,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Although the Northern Kingdom is mired in chaos and cruelty after the death of Ahab (and the fulfillment of the Prophecy about dogs drinking his blood) the House of Ahab still rules. I imagine Jezebel was still storming around the palace as the "Queen Mother", manipulating matters of state, ordering assassinations, and influencing the next generations of kings. A recurring theme is the murder of Naboth and the seizing of his ancestral vineyard. While this may seem like a minor incident of "Eminent Domain" in the Ancient World, it was actually a repudiation of God's Covenant with His People. Naboth's Vineyard was symbolic of the lands set apart and divided among the Twelve Tribes of Israel way back in the Torah. Even women would receive an inheritance if there were no sons, just to keep the land in the family.

Elisha was still very much involved in his ministry, and he sends a young prophet to the military camp to anoint Jehu, an army officer, as the next king of the Northern Kingdom. He was not a "royal" nor was he related to Ahab in any way. It was time to start fresh.

Evidently, Jehu was a very skilled driver of his War Chariot. I did a little research on this and "driving like a maniac" would have topped out at about 40 mph. That may not seem like much to us, but imagine doing it standing up, controlling a couple of high-spirited horses, and not wearing a seatbelt!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)

“The plot thickens”

Yes indeed. This is one of the most difficult portions of Scripture to read through because of all the similar names and the two timelines. Thank you for hanging in there with me! :-)
